How is that PM? There’s no rule in PM requiring the engine to match the body, unless I misunderstood you.

I only meant the allowing of old bodies.....are any PM 's running motors that match a manufacturer? Generic Hemis and one off big blocks that kinda sorta look like a BBC....maybe Shotgun Fords are the closest

I have always said, ANY factory sheetmetal car..............that was an example of what is recognizable to the general public.. I never even said motor has to match, although I think it should. Heck back in the early 80's I put a Hemi in my Chevelle. Yes over 50 here.

It's interesting everyone has an opinion on what to do with Pro Stock to try and save it.

The real question is what does the NHRA thing they should do because in the end they are the voice that really determines what happens next to the class.

They have decided to "add" drama by making the fields smaller so someone might actually get bumped...........if more than 8 cars show up, which is doubtful at those events. 3 KB cars, 3 Gray MS cars, 3 Elite cars.......no spots left.

The only thing the smaller field guarantees is an all Camaro show.

IMO next year even 16 car fields, if there are any, will be all Camaro..........

My opinion is the sport is changing and Pro Stock is not appealing to the younger crowds, the way it did to my generation (I'm 44). All today's environment wants are the loud, life altering explosive fuel cars because they create WOW moments. This holds true with Pro Mod, they are popular because they are unpredictable, fast & exciting. Pro Stock, unfortunately is bland & boring. I watch because I've always enjoyed the class and understand the mechanics of how they work...kids today could care less.
So as I get older and the older fans are gone, what happens to a class that no one wants to watch? bingo

BTW, I do still get excited when a PS car picks up 2-3 tenths during an event :)

nothing earth shattering here, move along.
so we will have more races with short fields..........
what are they actually changing?

I'll bet they are giving the "new engine" package an opportunity to work. Listening to Richard Freeman speak on this, it will be a more spec engine, that NHRA approves and will be run by all teams...similar to what NASCAR does with theirs. It would be a flat rate for lease, set by the sanctioning body and the program managed by them also.
Personally, I think it will be like back in the mid 90's when Schmidt & Maskin would have trailers full of lease engines arrive at the track, they'd deliver to the leasees pits, install and tag. Once the leasee was out of competition, the engine would be pulled and returned to the owner.

Probably something along those lines. You also paid per horsepower, so if you wanted a top qualifying engine it was "x", midpack was "y"

A spec engine is fine as long as it matches the make of the car.

So how are you going to spec a Hemi vs a GM???
or all wedges???
Who is going to pay for that development??
I say have Toyota supply the 500 CI, FI, DOHC spec engine
but seriously, the fact remains none has the funding to do this.
No factory is going to get involved in this expense
Gray KB Elite???
can you say conflict of interest
Look at how PSB is working out
Vance and Hines supplies the Suzukis you and I can buy but what about the Harleys they supply, only 1 team gets them

Do you think it's partially to blame on the automotive industry itself? I look at cars on the street these days and I can't tell a Ford from a Chevy from a Toyota from a Dodge. They all look like pregnant roller skates shaped in the same mold. The cars themselves are actually lacking personality. Other than the cars that are used in Factory Showdown, I can't even tell what type of car it is anymore. I used to get excited to see a Ford Taurus Wagon or a Pontiac Grand Prix, or a Dodge Daytona. I remember walking to school when I was little, and depending on the day I would look for a certain kind of car. Mopar Mondays. Ford Fridays. Now, I can't tell the difference, and they all look terrible to me! Why would people be interested in cars anymore?

Nobody, and I mean nobody should ever be excited to see a Taurus Wagon.
