Countdown Whining - can we put it to rest? (1 Viewer)

I think Kelly should save her hugs for the guy who needs them - Ron Capps.
The man who should be leading the points but instead has a slim chance to win the championship he and the ace deserve.

sorry but whoever started this thread brought it up.

and I'm not whining. I'm *****ing and moaning. We don't whine in New England.

I still seem to remember that poll thread on here ran something like 83/17% against/for the countdown. When I read something that just says like it or not, the Countdown is here to stay? What does that tell me? No matter how screwed up it may end up being, NHRA will not be willing to change it? It's their ball and their right to do what they want with it but, I don't believe for a moment they wouldn't change back if that's where they thought their best interests were. I've heard that the opinions of pro racers are not what that article says. That came from someone who does know and do business with many of them personally.

ALL Pro Racers?

Or some?

Early in life I learned the masses and majority rule were usually dead wrong.

Jury is still out Anyhow.

BTW.......I still like it........don't care if its 1,000,000,000 to 1

I never liked following the herd...........

Being with the majority is what I DON'T like about this one! :D Not my kind of fight!

You're right. The way I worded that could be taken as all-inclusive. I will say the person said most of them.

You gotta love that the "can we put it to rest?" thread is still at the top! :D Does that give anyone their answer to the question?

I agree Lance 100%. For those who do not like it, we know. Let’s talk about other drag racing stories without bringing the Countdown into the thread. By the way, I heard the Countdown was responsible for global warming.:D

just read this on cnn.com:

SENATOR LARRY CRAIG READY TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY

A recent interview with Senator Larry Craig revealed more than expected. Senator Craig will assume a "guilty by reasons of insanity" plea to a Senate Ethics Committee. Craig states, "I once had a normal life; a great family, a loving wife, and the trust of my constituents. That all changed with NHRA's implementation of the 'Countdown to the Championship.' It was too much to handle. I found myself some nights balled up in the corner of my bedroom rocking back and forth. That incident in the bathroom was just the pinnacle of my inability to handle this CountCrap. Yes, what I did was wrong, but how can you expect any sane man to handle this farce NHRA has laid upon us. I hope, with the help my both professionals and my family, that I can one day regain my sanity."

Hey! If I were his attorney....... :D I'm gonna remember this if I screw up in the near future. Could save some flower money. Psychological scarring caused the the Countdown. I could definitely see that as a legal defense. :D I think NHRA owes us some pain, suffering, trauma, and emotional distress money. Class action lawsuit! :D

Can't we just agree to disagree??
I enjoy reading the point - vs - counterpoints on the topic of the Countdown.
Start to read posts with an open mind, not just..oh there goes PJ on another rant against the countdown, etc...If you're complaining now about whats being posted...it's going to be a lonnnnnnng cold BORING offseason....

Go Hot Rod!!:p

I think the problem is that PJ goes to great lengths to try and explain how we feel about the countdown and why. Regardless of what he says some people will never get it. Others say it doesn't do any good to complain because it will never change. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe PJ should cut his posts concerning the countdown to three words.

THE COUNTDOWN SUCKS !!!!!

I suppose that would do it. I try to be more open to discusion though and explaining why it is wrong, or at least why I believe it is wrong. I do not intend to run the board with countdown talk all of the time. I just respond to comments others make.
I would go further but I said I would refrain from my anti countdown crusade for the last weekend

I really admire someone who takes a stand and sticks to it. Not to mention explaining why they have taken this stand. When I hear it doesn't do any good to complain, I think back and wonder. What would today be if Wally Parks didn't make his plans known and fought for every inch from those who would not support his new activity and told him it wouln't work and took that advise that it wouldn't do any good to say anything. Not that I'm comparing PJ to Wally, but I commend PJ for his stand on the C word.

You're just getting stereotyped because you actually DID something about something you're passionate about. I think some people think you comment about it more often than you do.

If you're refraining what you talk about for others, what would you like them to talk about or not talk about for you in exchange? Maybe they'd like you to click your boot heels while you're at it.

That's true Capps should be in the lead.Fuller qualifyed. He went from 18th to 8th.That would have sucked big time if he would had a dnq.
He should by the old way been the champ already.Go Hot Rod:D

You couldn't work Countdown in there somewhere? :D
Dittos on happy birthday, in spite of all the Countdown bickering. (See? :D )

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Jenn...and Ron.

One more day then this whole countdown crap ceases until next year..or until PJ rehashes it since his curfew will have been lifted!! :D

love ya peej ;)

p.s. didn't like it for NASCAR and certainly don't for NHRA and that's all I have to say 'bout that!!

Ah, what could have been....Under the old system had Capps and T Ped both won in round one tomorrow they would have run in round two for the championship. Isn't this the drama the countdown was supposed to manufacture?

No Brian, it was meant to crown champs the week before :D LOL

You know I look back at the 89 season, Joe needed Ormsby out first round to have a chance, 90 the et, the win, 2006 well we know about that, all not fabricated, just good racing all year long right till the end. And as you pointed out, the FC race would have been a cracker!

:(

Yeah, it was drama for me when they'd say "So and so needs to at least do this well here to stay in contention." When someone locked it up early, I saw it as a great achievement. This may sound weird but, I think it motivated me in other areas of my life. Work harder, smarter, and/or longer, throw in a little luck and life might reward you.

Now it's "Work harder, smarter, and/or longer, build a nice points lead and watch it be taken away. It just seems too much like "Nobody gets more than anyone else, even if they earned it" socialism to me. I thought drag racing was one place where I didn't have to worry about that stuff. Your points are actually confiscated from you when you didn't do anything wrong.
