*****in' Ash!
You put into word, in front of a larger audience, what the hardcore fans have been saying. But, this isn't new, look back at some of the editorials from SS/DI, and other monthlies dating back to the late 70's. Heck, you can go back to the birth of PRO.

There's been a mindset for at least the last 45 years that NHRA wasn't for racers to do this as a living, and the purse is keep low because of that.

JOHN ASHER JUST HIT ONE OUT OF THE BALLPARK FOLKS!!!!

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

OUTSTANDING WORK Mr. ASHER!

Timmah!

Mr. Asher, if i were racing at this time in either Sportsman or Pro i would be leading the pack out the exit gate. This is going to be the quickest and most decisive way to fix what used to be the example of this great sport. A new owner is the best way, but for a buyer to purchase NHRA the board would have to approve the sale and now we know who gives those votes.

Great article.. But in his last sentence where he asks someone to step up and buy NHRA, we have to remember that as far as I think I know, the schmucks running NHRA can control who they sell to.

Why would they tell Bruton no and HD Partners yes? I think it is because they knew Bruton would of cleaned house. I think they felt safe with the HD group.

Am I way off base here?

Asher didn't just hit a home run with this latest editorial. This a Reggie Jackson World Series performance in the world of drag racing!!!

Sadly, you are right on. But my prediction is the NHRA will throw some lip service at the problems, and nothing much will change at all.

Not when you look at who was on the list of Board Members for the HD Partners aquisition. That and the fact that Tom Comptom was going to be the head of the new company.

Until the racers stop supporting the NHRA nothing will change. And I'm not talking about the Pros. I'm talking about the Sportsman racers.

If you want to see the NHRA stand up take notice, see what would happen if the Sportsman pit were completely empty at a national... or better yet, nobody showed up for a divisional race.

Manufacturers, sponsors, and track operators would have a lynch mob in Glendora overnight.

Deny it all you want, it's the Sportsman racers that are real backbone of the NHRA. Without the Sportsman racers there are no drag strips around the country. Not even Bruton Smith can afford to own a drag strip with only the promise of one or two events a year.

What would rise out of the mess would be track operators, local promoters and racers organizing their own events... yes, drag racing would thrive, just not in the format we're currently used too.

Lip service will not be received or taken very well. If they were concerned about how they were percieved and even cared about such, there would have been some sort of notation or acknowledgement regarding what has happened of late and the direction NHRA is headed; if for no other reason but to save face.

All I can say is, it must be nice to run a monopoly, take a huge salary and have a majority of your customers hating you and your company!

I own a small business, with many competitors, and if my customers don't get good/great customer service from my company, then they will go to a competitor and I lose their business and I go out of business!

NHRA currently has no motivation to please it's customers and membership, because they know they are the only major venue in the drag racing business. Sad, but true.

I don't have the fix-all solution to the problem, but it is really sad that a company could care less about customer service but still survive (and thrive?) and pay its executives ridiculous salaries.

They're not.....especially if they are not careful..........I hear a knock at the door..................

In some markets, they are the only major auto racing event, period. Denver for instance. NASCAR-Busch track in Colorado Springs closed, Champ Car is not running the Denver Grand Prix. Unless you count the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the AMA indoor Supercross series and USHRA Monster Jam tour.... Bandimere Speedway (which by the way, Thank God is owned and run by one of the classiest families in the world!) is your only place for "major" motorsports in the large area between north of Phoenix, west to Vegas, east to Topeka and north to Canada.

Hey Chris...how ya doing?!?! :D

I was talking about the comment about major "Drag Racing" venue....that's what I was refering to. :) (and the knock at the door)

If it was such a controlled monopoly as everybody says, the man in charge could act however he wanted with no consequences whatsoever. I'd even bet he could get drunk, drive into somebody's house without as much as a slap on the hand?
It could happen!

See what I mean?
