Re: NHRA monkey see, monkey do.

So far only 15% are liking it. Wonder if NHRA did any marketing surveys before they broke the points system and made 3/4 of the season irrelevant. Or it was just a seat of the pants copy another race series snap judgment?
like re-inventing the craftsman truck series as the pro stock truck fiasco.

In all fairnes we are a pretty die hard bunch here. Other polls that I've seen taken over a wider group usually run 70-75% against. Still huge of course. Although I think even this number is up from past polls by a good 5%

PJ, I think Wilkerson losing the title this year has swayed a lot of people. My father was with me on supporting the Countdown before it cost Wilkerson the title. He now tells me I am nuts and Tim should be the champ this year. I was rooting for Tim to, but I also like Cruz and I understand these are the rules all the teams had to play within. I am heading back to NJ tomorrow, hopefully I can get my dad back on my wagon.:D

ah you should listen to your father, wise man. No arguing its the rules and they all know it. The beef is with the rules. its hard but can't fault those that benefit from it. Have a safe trip and try to learn something from your dad:D

Countdown: Blows goats! Kill it. Wilk is the champ.

Qualifing system: I still can't figure that crap out.

1000': i dont get it. Ok, so we blow **** up sooner. Congrats! I too watch other categories now. Fuel is crap. Sonoma was crap. Alky stuff rocks. 1320' and they go down the track!

Currently the vote is 8-1 against. I wonder what the NHRA thinks the results would be among all the fans?

I may have made a bad assumption in that I assumed the NHRA management thinks.

Any playoff system where the participants don't actually play off against each other with certainty is a joke.

I wonder how NFL fans woud react if the playoffs consisted of the NY Gaints possibly playing the Bengals or the Lions.

if tim w. was 2nd or 3rd in points going into vegas II and/or pomona
(having never had the points lead all year) and overtook a much better funded multi-car racer to win the title, i would surmise there mite be a few more
sympathetic to the countdown.
not sure if it's perfect, but i still don't mind the countdown.
i think this year was better than the countdown to '4' last year.

In all reality, The Countdown is similar to other major sports. For instance, last year's Superbowl. New England came in undefeated, the BEST team in the league and they got beat by New York. Should we give them the Lombardi trophy because they were the best team all season long but choked in the big game? How could you give the championship to a 10-6 team that beat a 16-0 team, why, because they played at their best DURING THE PLAYOFFS! It is what championship calibur teams do, win when it counts and that is exactly what the New York Giants did(and Cruz for that matter)!

I've figured out the decoder ring!!!!

The secret agenda was to make Nitro racing as bound up as a cheese eaters colon to the point where even die hards hate it so much that, HORRORS- folks actually go back to watching ALL of the racing activities.. Hear me out.. :D

- Its impossible to see anything good in the pits anymore, between the skyscraper trailers stuffed together like New York condos, all the hospitality trailers that offer ME no hospitality ;) and the 75 minute turn- I can't run around that fast..

- The racing is truncated in the Nitro classes- plain and simple. Pomona was the last straw, with the stands past 1000' becoming giant banners.

- Testing is a thing of the past because of the Nitro "shortage"..... Multi-car teams have made it impossible for the little guy to do well to the end (see the Wilk fiasco). The Countdown makes as much sense as a Steve Johnson top-end interview. It's as if NHRA is striving to disgust ALL of the fans its culled over the past 50 years and replace them with crowds that have the attention span of gnats. Or the average MTVidiot.

- John has stolen all the good sponsors..:D

The plan is to make us so disgusted with Nitro racing that someone finally sells off the whole mess to Bruton to let him turn it Nitro classes into a big Sunday, Sunday, Sunday circus and then we will all be acclamated to going back to- HORRORS- enjoying watching the "non-professionals" go 1320 racing...

Wait... What a great idea.

Between the countdown and the 1000ft rule, I've pretty much lost interest in Fuel racing in the USA. I used to take the time to check on the results over race weekends for all Pro classes, but now the fuel results (both race results and points standings) don't mean anything to me so I just concerntrate more on the other classes instead.

Congrats! I too watch other categories now. Fuel is crap. Sonoma was crap. Alky stuff rocks. 1320' and they go down the track!

In every other Sport, Play-off teams Only Play Play-off Teams... put the eight quickest on one side of the ladder and let them have at it... the first two to dnq for quick eight the first race are out of the championship and finish 9th and 10th in the points...

d'kid

Naming anyone besides the person who earned the most points throughout the whole season the season champion is bogus.
IMO, Playoffs in any sport are BS and only in place to make the owners more money.
When I was a kid the teams that won the pennants in the Amercan league and National league played each other in the World Series and the winning team was crowned the Champion.
As far as I am concerned, these contrived championships are just one more step in the dumbing down of our great country.

It's just one more way to reward mediocrity instead of rewarding the best of the best.

NFL would love it if the Bengals and Giants were mid game athe the Lions came out on the field and knocked out 1 team and started playing.. Then the 49ers could come out and take out a team and win the championship.. YEAH that's the ticket.. Just make it a free for all where any team can come in at any time an take over the game...:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Somehow I just knew the 1000' rule was going to get metioned in this thread. I could set my watch on it.

Mark, this is a GREAT thread / poll. You want to do one on the 1,000ft vs 1320 go ahead. Just make sure you state that if they (nhra) goes back to 1320ft it will be with 300mph fuelers. Not the fuelers we have and love now.

Responses to the poll seem to be slowing down now. 24 like it, 187 dislike it. In the words of Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that".
