Who was Bob Edwards? (2 Viewers)

I ran into a crash video which included this man's (fatal) crash. Before then I never heard of him. When did he race?

BTW this man's crash seemed to be fairly low-speed after a slight wheel-stand, how did it turn out to be fatal?

Bob Edwards- Ran Jim and Allison Lee's T/F car in the 70's... and is a big reason why we don't have Armaco guardrails anymore..

The car got out of shape after a small wheelstand and drove under the guardrail between posts- very nasty, tragic accident

He ran in the 70's, and I think he was best known for being in the other lane when Shirley got her first win.

He wheelstod, and came down, broke the steering. It crossed lanes, and went into the metal guard rail. He went through or below the bottom section, and the top part and posts did the damage. Tore the car to pieces.

Ouch! Sad to hear, if the concrete guardrails would have existed back then, he probably would have just bounced off.

Every innovation is paid for in blood in motor racing. There would be a lot of folks alive today if we had understood that concrete was safer than Armco. At the time most believed that Armco was the right thing because it bent and deflected the car. Most would have refused to race with concrete walls!

I don't mind watching crash videos..like 'And They Walked Away'. But I have no inkling to watch death videos..I've seen enough in real life. And to put it to music is kind of sick..IMO.

WOW! Martin, that is a blast from the past! I love Jim & Allison Lee! Those are 2 of the sweetest people in drag racing. Going up & down the east coast racing with them and all the other fine folks in the 70's was awesome. That was back when you stayed in the "Bates Motels"!!! Those were the days!

There is still a ton of tracks with the aarmaco unfortunately. I believe it was all supposed to be gone by last january, but there is still alot of tracks with it due to the cost of concrete.

Sounds like Paul Page must have done the commentary.

I was watching the Video from Richmond last evening... and I discovered something.... Paul Page has grown on me, mistakes and all, and Marty's voice still makes my teeth hurt...

But Mike Dunn seemed more Relaxed with Marty... but I get the feeling now it's just a gig for Mike, almost like he can't/won't say what he really feels...

I was watching the Video from Richmond last evening... and I discovered something.... Paul Page has grown on me, mistakes and all, and Marty's voice still makes my teeth hurt...

But Mike Dunn seemed more Relaxed with Marty... but I get the feeling now it's just a gig for Mike, almost like he can't/won't say what he really feels...

Paul Page is great! ...announcing the Hot Dog eating contest, that is. I love how Dunn just kind of says nothing now when Page says something stupid. Creates for some dead air for Page to float around in.

Why would someone want to watch a video of someone getting killed?
I don't get that at all. At least in the old Diamond P "Walked Away" tapes, you knew nobody died.

Most of those Gold Dust tapes have some great classic action on it... It is weierd that they have the fatal ones on it too, but they were produced WAY before things started getting so "PC"...

I hate to further derail this thread and this was probably discussed elsewhere and I missed it but.... How funny was it on the race day show for Mike Dunn to hand his notes over to John Force and say, "Here is my resume"? That cracked me up!!!!
