What kind of job do you have? (2 Viewers)

Was born/raised in So Calif...never spent one minute in college...But went on to build the largest (sq ft) sound stages for big league productions....Sold em to a venture capitalist group who sold em to Geffen/Spielberg/Disney...I was not a good student in school as I was always thinking outside the box...
Moved to Boise, wife is an ESQ contracted thru So Cal and the local Chamber of Commerce...Today- buy/sell real property while doing clutch maintenance on a fly-in basis w/ a fuel coupe on the NHRA side...

Best advice ever received: Your return is equal to your risk and to think big..

OK, not really. I'm in the music biz. I run a 14000 sq. ft. retail store and also manage to sell a few trinkets here and there. Anyone want to buy a Steinway? :)

I have worked with the same chemical company for almost 32 years. We were a Diamond Shamrock plant when I started and on our 6th (I think but I lost count) different owner. We produce a powdered fungicide known as Daconil and a liquid application known as Bravo.

I am a Process Safety Management Specialist (official title) dealing mostly with Management of Change and training records management or anything else that is OSHA 29CFR 1910.119 related. I construct computer based training (CBT) modules that are streamed across the network so people can take the majority of their training at their desktops.

Used to be a LAN administrator, Operations Supervisor, piano player at the Chicken Ranch  (not really) but I went there once, diesel truck mechanic for Hertz (before Penske bought it), worked for the old Houston Balancing and Engine Service, maintenance man at a corrugated box plant.

My wife and I own a travel business that specializes in destination honeymoons and weddings. We (she actually) are a full service travel service agency setting up any and all travel arrangements the customer needs.

I run a small company called Carolina Pit Stop. We do fleet and retail vehicle service onsite, and we're almost always able to meet or BEAT the bricks and mortar competition on pricing. I started this company two years ago this month, and things are really looking up. Our customers tell us that they wish we'd come along YEARS ago, which is very uplifting, especially when you're covered in grease and oil. :) Tons of work, to say the least...

BTW, we offer a 10% no BS discount for customers with NHRA or IHRA membership, and have from day one. If we can help anyone in the Upstate SC area, let me know...

Cheers,

Well, I started a clothing company 3 years ago that pertains to racing. Basically I travel a lot, spend tons of time infront of a computer and don't make much. I started the company to maybe one day pay for a dragster and to run it. Currently I sponsor the Nor Cal Top Comp series and travel to all of thier events, and I am a part of Mike Blackburn (crew chief) and Steve Casner's Top Dragsters. All I want to do it race, have been trying for 8 years, licensed for 5 and working on the clothing for 3. I figure if I give up now, I will never get there. Oh yeah, the company (as many know) is called Joker Race Wear.

BTW, thank you to everyone who has supported us and my dream, I really appreciate it.

terry, your advice line is spot on.

I work full time as a teaching assistant doing sixth grade special ed. Normally the kids don't go a day without hearing some sort of drag racing analogy. Their reading assignments were due today, although they were encouraged to hand them in early, so yesterday after a few students came in without their assignments I pointed out to them that if this was the races they would be going into the last qualifying session not qualified. Last week one of teachers was in a really bad mood and more or less yelled at all the kids so when a co-worker asked me how the class was I told her it was a hot, greasy racetrack. I also am a part time graduate student going for a masters in special ed.

Purchasing/Traffic/and Parts for a custom compressor packaging house... mostly gas boosters, haz location stuff, and High Pressure breathing air...

This after spending 20 yrs in the supply side of the automotive paint business...

We need to hear from Joe, Karl, Teri, Ray (well, we all know what Ray does, but he should really spell it all out!) and anyone else who cares to share!!!

Thanks Suzie.........It is interesting to see what everyone else does!!

After nine years of being a stay at home mom, I am now a Teachers Assistant at my kids Elementary school.

I really like it but I miss being on the Mater thru out the day!!!:(:p:(

I build air conditioning coils for the Trane Co. we build coils out of stuff called "spine fin" it is aluminium tubing with aluminium spines attached, like a wire brush with 3/8 tubing inside, very good stuff, I "solder" a 3/8" copper joint into the aluminium tubing,(well about 2,000 a day) it's a gravy job. I've been there 12 yrs, before that I was assistant director of maintence for Kerrville bus co. and prior to that spent 12 yrs as a heavy equipment mechanic on everything from road construction to oilfield equipment. I've worked offshore in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico, been to Asia and Europe turning wrenches.

Firefighter Paramedic for Wichita Fire Dept, Firehouse #10. Best job in the world, plus the 24hr shifts make it easier to get off to go racing. It doesn't pay very well but my wife is an Engineer at Cessna Aircraft so that helps. I also am a Medic for the WPD SWAT team, and part time teach Fire Tactics and Strategies for regional fire schools.

For the last seven years or so I have been land surveying, after doing survey work on the Mississippi River for the Vicksburg District (MS) Corp of Eng. for more than twenty years.

I'm a full time Drag Race fan.

Hobbies include being a carpenter foreman who has helped build many of the hotel/casinos in Vegas, just so you Maters have a place to unwind after a long day at the track.

Small transport business owner (2 small trucks and trailers) I sub haul For another racer out of So Cal and some of my own stuff. I take care of all of Nor Cal(Modesto,Salinas to Oregon border) and Nor Nevada hauling mostly Motorcycles.Sometimes boats, jet skis, travel trailers but 90% motorcycles of some sort,90% of which have been repossessed for one reason or another and others that have been crashed or purchases by private parties.Best part is I can take off whenever I want to go racin :) No paid vacations though:eek: But now that I have recently hired a more full time(used to be part time) employee it will be even more easy to go racing(I think)... I can honestly say I love my job just because I get too see the outdoors everyday and go racing without having to ask for time off.All but one job I have ever had has been driving something .Took 92-97 and went rodeoin (quit a full time racin gig maintaining and cleaning a couple Super gas cars to do so). Got back into racin in 98 (Unpaid gig this time ) got another drivin job for a few years and then bought my first trucking business of my own from another racer who retired...
