Tire wipers ? (6 Viewers)

When Fryberger was interviewing Jasmine Salians, he said something about here team being tire wipers. Anybody know what this is about?

I thought the term used was "scrub tires for them". My immediate thought was a team asked them to "scrub" tires for them. Not like physically scrub the tire with their hands, but to break in new ones. Some part time lower funded teams will run new tires to "scrub" them for other teams. They get them all mounted up and ready to run, and give them back after a run or 2. It kind of works out on both sides. It helps the tire bill for the smaller teams, and most of the time, the (I'll say big teams) prefer to not run new tires.

In other words, it was taken as the Scrappers car was in Indy just to be there, and not making a competitive run at it. Might as well scrub some tires in while you are just here playing around.

The Scrappers team did a lot more than that which was great.

That's just how I took it, and could certainly be mistaken.

I found it to be quite silly. I'd like to know who in the top fuel pit area wasn't taking them seriously? It was like a scene out of The Water Boy movie where Bobby Boucher makes sh*t up in his head to motivate himself.

There's nothing wrong with scrubbing tires. There are some part times teams that do quite well with new tires on every run and it is a tremendous money savings for them as well. Maybe Jasmine should stop looking down her nose at part time teams? Considering the circumstances, they had a great day...be happy.

By the way, is the Scrappers team on the entry list for Reading?

No but i heard they may to columbus??

I think what the other team meant was Jasmine’s team was just a bunch of tire wipers, not a real crew. Tire wipers are the people who literally wipe the slicks after the burnout. The other team was implying Jasmine’s team didn’t have a lot of skill. Since they were one of just four cars left standing I’d say the other team was wrong -not to mention not very classy.

Term that was used was tire wipers ,not tire scrubers

Nothing bad about being a "tire wiper"!

I started my long association with drag racing in the early 60's as a lowly "tire wiper" on Bill Butter's new B/GD.

We became partner soon and went on to many years in Top Fuel and then Competition Eliminator!

Bill retired later and I have been a partner with Steve Moeller and Walter Whitby for over 40 years.
First in Competition Eliminator in C/ED and B/ED.

We now run Top Dragster in Division 7.

So many great people and memories!

When Freiberger ask her to name the team who called her team tire wipers she declined to answer. Did you hear something else ?

In her Interview with Courtney after round 1 on NHRA.TV, the very first time it was brought up -- direct quote- "There have been other teams that have asked us to scrub tires for them.. You know what, we didn't come here to scrub tires, we came here to go rounds."

Then Friberger substituted scrub for wipe the next round. If you don't have NHRA.TV, you probably didn't see it.

Ok, so I am correct. Thank you.

Well, that explains it!
