Theft, Fire Hit Tony Pedregon in Pomona

That sux!

I went to the night of champions at the museum tonight and Tony was a panelist. We knew of the explosion but not the theft. He was definitely struggling to find words to say after a tough day. He was stoic and tried to be positive.

The first Winternats I hung out with V. someone stole our golf cart after the finals.

if i may ask a dumb question, when do these thieves get an opportunity to steal ? overnight or while the team is making a run. if its overnight, isn't everything loaded locked up in the transporter probably with an alarm ! or during a run, i imagine a team member or an associate would stay behind in the pit and keep an eye on things.

Too bad this chump wasnt caught on film and taken behind the tool shed like that idiot at the Gators last year. We can only hope karma will come back and bite this thief harder than he bit TP...

My question is how did the thieves get the tool box out of the pits? Maybe it went into another racer's trailer.

Just sayin'.

Some racers used to leave the car and equipment outside overnight, but had curtains up around the pit. I'm sure that didn't last long.

I had two sets of slicks stolen from my pit back at E-town 2007 and I was only a sportsman.

Last time I was at Pomona I was looking at some Simpson helmets. I set my camera down for a minute to buy one as it was the end of the day and nobody was around other than three other guys that were together and two sales people. Well as soon as I bought the helmet I went to pick up the camera and it was gone. Stupid me.

And thanks to some POS theives all the race teams will be looking over their shoulders and eyeballing everyone else like a potential thief. All it takes is a couple a bad apples to ruin things.

I can't think of any of the Pro teams who leave their tool boxes out at night. I've watched most of the teams pack up at night over the years and never seen one leave their tool box out. Funny, it wasn't mentioned on the TV broadcast Saturday night. Just sayin'.

Dang bummer for Tony, wrecked one body, scraped another and to top it off gets a toolbox stolen.

Hope karma bites those thieves where the sun don't shine

Been that way for years. Depends on the event. Local event with just racers around you can leave things around unlocked. Divisional, you close things up, but maybe not lock up. National, never leave for any reason without locking up like a safe. Chain things down...

Pomona is especially bad. Seems like some clowns just consider the ticket to be a license to a free swap meet. Golf carts even. Amazing.

We had a golf cart stolen last year at the World Finals sitting next to our trailer in broad daylight while we were in our pit. But I found it later that night sitting in the middle of the parking lot. Someone just wanted to take a joy ride. They kept the keys but we got the cart back.:)

Been several years since I have raced at any large events, but my buddies tell me if you dont lock it down, it probably wont be there when you come back. Used to, we never locked up anything till leaving the track. Never had a problem with losing anything while in the staging lanes or on the track. Just a sad commentary of how far our society has sunk. Talked to an insurance guy at a Super Chevy a couple of years back and he said NHRA National Events are the worst of all for theft problems.
