I have never in my life seen a bunch of grown ups complain to this extent about something they have no control over.
I have no control over the weather either, yet I complain about it incessantly, as does most everyone else I know.
I am ambivalent about the Countdown, I think both systems have their merits. I am glad this is a DISCUSSION board so I can be enlightened to both sides. There is nothing I hate more than a bunch of sheep that throw their hands up in the air and say "it is what it is ... nothing I can do about it." That's the lazy/easy way out.
Whether or not NHRA changes is irrelevant as constructive, dissenting opinions such as PJ's and Rapid's have their place.
Lastly, the way NHRA and NASCAR operate is fundamentally different. The NHRA is a supposed non-profit with members who pay dues. The Board of NHRA is supposed to act in the best interests of the membership constituency. NASCAR has no members, they are a for profit sanctioning body. NASCAR let you know in no uncertain terms that it is their sandbox that you are playing in and you have NO say. 2 very different ethos ...
To say that it is NHRA's sandbox, go start your own series to NHRA members is dismissive and unconstructive. I am not saying NHRA has to act upon every member's opinion, but the opinions definitely need to be/deserve to be heard ... especially when they are folks who have paid their annual dues doing the complaining. I would guess that if everyone left NHRA for any reason they were slightly irritated with the sanctioning body as suggested, they wouldn't have very many members. What is accomplished then?
