also does it matter where they were ranked at the time or where they finished up??? Georgia a top 10 team at one point, and finished the season unranked, so does a win against them count as a win against a ranked team or not???

Michigan beat the #2 team, at the time, however now at the end of the season we know norte dumb was/is not the second best team...not even close.

I wish the ncaa would take over non conference scheduling. This would help the overly creampuff schedules. I can't see playing a 1aa school and being able to count that as a win, you mine as well go play the local high school team.

What really bothers me about the process is that either Florida or Michigan was going to get jobbed. However people saying Michigan is the better team yet still voting for Florida I just don't get that. Also the dirtiness on some ballots, when they voted FLorida to #2 they even moved Michigan down from 3. There were several ballots were they were 4 or 5. The week after those same people had them 2 and nothing had changed. Also didn't some wacko give Florida a #1 vote. i can live with people voting florida 2 michigan 3 but to have Michigan lower than hat, it just cheapens and already grossly flawed system.

stoops has done a fine job, but c'mon the coach of the year has to be Greg Schiano. Seriously, how many of you even knew Rutgers had a football team before this year, then they go and almost win the Big East, and only lost because of a dropped pass on a two point conversion.
I thoroughly agree! He has done an awesome job with that program!

I still say the National Championship game was Nov. 18th, say what they will, (sports writers, coaches) the two best college football teams played. I've watched Florida, LSU, USC, Auburn, Louisville, Rutgers, VT, Tennesee, ND, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arkansas all play this year. and in my opinion either Michigan or Ohio State were on a differant level. Dont worry PJ Michigan will have its say next year, I dont see anyone standing in thier way in 2007. The gators will be real tasty after New Years:D

2 teams roll thru that o' so tough Big 10 this year and you're ready to crown them the best in the land?? Nobody knows unless it's done on the the field. You can't determine the best team by watching them play other teams.
If we (the writers, coaches, myself, nitromater guys/gals) knew exactly what we were talking about, I guess there wouldn't be any of those big hotels and casinos in Vegas :) Big Ten Champ, yes. National Champ, not just yet.

i think they did....oh wait that was just the rest of the big ten outside of wisconsin and ohio st :D :D

I agree, while I do believe OSU and Michigan are the 2 best teams (and yes Teri in that order..for now) I don't see that the big ten as being as tough top to bottom as the sec is. Although I will argue that the sec does seem to fatten their records against some joke opponets

Big ten non conf had 8 games against teams that are currently ranked sec had 5 (and none by florida)

27-7 Michigan over Vandy 25-19 floirda over vandy

And the Big 10 is not padding their record by playing MAC opponents?? Buffalo? Akron? Bowling Green?

Also, Penn State played 1AA Youngstown State this season (granted YS is a good 1AA team)... Are you sure you want to stand by your assessment that Michigan has never played a 1AA team????

I definately agree with you that Michigan & Ohio State deserve credit for stepping out & playing Texas & Notre Dame. I've bitched about that for years that the SEC does not go out of conference for big games enough.

Yeah, but look at the ranked opponents FU played inside the SEC. Big Ten's best bet is to move Michigan and Ohio State to the same weekend as Big 12/SEC/ACC Championship games. This would somewhat help Michigan in the leap-frogging done this year. Though the majority just didn't want a rematch. Or, and here's an idea, find a team, add them, and have your own Championship game. Sometime down the road, UM vs. OSU will be moved to mid year and the Big Ten will have a title game. Just my thought.

I heard some numbers that are just staggering, and will tell you why no conference wants a playoff system.

The SEC has 9 teams going to bowl games. Only Ole Miss, Miss State & Vandy are not going.

Those 9 bowls payout over 50 MILLION dollars to the pockets of the SEC. Just the big 5, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas & Tenn payout over 45 MILLION!!!!!!

you don't eleminate all the bowls, just the BCS bowls....plus the further your team goes in a playoff, the more games you play and the more revenue you generate so you could actually make more money off of a playoff than a bowl game

I haven't said it all day so I guess I should get it out of the way.............

GO BUCKEYES!!!:p

Hey Terry, how about those HUSKERS!!!

Dave, are you feeling any better today?????

Actually in that same conversation was the fact that the Big 10 would be the biggest roadblock for a playoff system. The Big 10 (actually Big 11) is dead set against adding another team & having a conference championship game, and also dead set against a playoff system. They don't like the fact that a "national championship" game was added this year because it devalues the prestigeous Rose Bowl. It is no longer "the grandaddy of them all"... They feel that "playoff" games during the bowls would devalue them. If its not the championship game, its not the "best bowl"....

to me, the fact that there is like 348 bowl games is what devalues them....i think something like 64 or 66 teams will play in bowl games this year....thats over half of Division I football. Thats insane. I know it is all about the cash, but for cryin out loud do we really need a Meinke Car Care Bowl?!?!?!

Hi Teri! Glad to hear the Buckeyes war cry. Huskers are getting ready for what looks to be a really tough game with Auburn. But I think we may be up for the task. Could be worse for us I guess. We could be playing Michigan or OHIO STATE! GO HUSKERS!

thats my question though, are they really that good of teams when they fatten there record against so many low teams it's very easy to get to 6 wins when 3 games come against huge nobodies.

they've been willing and have tried to have Notre Dame join, but the ncaa gives norte dame so much that there is no point in them joining any conference. They get their own tv deal, get automatic entry into the bcs if they make it to a certain rank. Beyond that the big ten feels that unless they go raid another major confernce that there isn't really a big/good enough mid major that should join them.

Personally I think that there is room for both the bowls and a playoff system. The playoffs are only going to affect 8 teams. This year there are 32 bowls so 64 teams are in. I would love to see 6-6 teams eliminated from going to bowls.

The current bcs game could rotate the semil final and final game. no more bowl ties in, I'd love to see more mid mjor champs taking on (and beating) the 3rd, 4th, 5th place teams from the snob conferences

So you don't believe playing Vanderbilt, C. Michigan or Ball State is fattening a record?

Or OSU playing N. Illinois, Cincinnati or BG?

Now as I said before, I'll give you OSU playing Texas & Mich playing ND. Kudos to those clubs for having the guts to step up....

But beyond those games, eveyone plays 2 or 3 creampuffs.
