Starting an A/Fuel car

Does the started run parallel to the crank, or 90 degrees to the crank? I can't see how the fir the starter on the cranks snout if the start is parallel to the cranks as the fuel pump is in the way.

I don't see anything on RCD Engineering's site that would indicate there are 90 degree kits, so maybe the fuel pump is mounted 90 degree to the cam?
