Shortened PS Schedule for '18?

"If NHRA really wanted to promote Factory Stock at Indy they could do so via schedule modifications that don’t appear to be all that complicated. Qualifying should take place Friday (when we acknowledge that most fans don’t arrive until late in the day for the one evening pro qualifying session). The first round of eliminations should take place between the two fuel qualifying sessions that evening. The second should take place between the fuel sessions on Saturday evening. The quarter finals should be staged Sunday right with fuel qualifying and/or the Traxxas race, with the semis and finals some time on Monday. By scheduling the racing at approximately the times suggested the grandstands should be as full as they’re going to be."

Thanks for the link Nunzio. I sure do hope that Pro Stock can survive. I'm enjoying the class as must as the days of Jim Yates, Warren Johnson, Tom Martino,Scott Geoffrion, Darrell Alderman, and Kurt Johnson! I'm sure there were and have been better days for the category but I can only comment on what I was in tune with.
Real Racer = Hard Core. heh That's me. I even stay in the stands for Super Stock & Stock, cuz I love the wheelies. The biggest "problem" I have is S/C & S/G. S/C is cookie cutter and S/G is getting that way cuz of the roadsters. I do like Super Street, cuz those are real cars. It's pretty cool seeing a 49 Ford go off aganist a Camaro & knowing either one can win. Even if the Ford has a Rat motor in it. I'll cut him some slack cuz he has an old car car out there.

I agree, I have friends that go to Indy and I only went with them one time because I wanted to be there on Thursday to see stock/super stock class. If you want to change a class that is like that then pick on one of the other stock classes....you know, the ones that nobody watches now. He blames the lack of success of factory stock on NHRA not promoting it. That excuse has been used by people over the years that cannot bare to think that their product is simply not interesting. So they blame the lack of interest on those not promoting it. Some on this forum blame the lack of fans at bracket races on the lack of promotion, and of course electronics. It could be that it simply isn't any fun for most people to watch!
I don't know if pro stock eliminating races will do much saving of the class. Has the expense driven folks out of the class? Of course. But I will say again that it is the natural progression of any kind of competition. It refines as it ages. Now we have a handful of teams that have really deep pockets and they dominate. No shi1t? You can say just about the same thing about high school athletics. We now have kids that play one sport year round, get constant professional coaching input and physical training. Is the answer to reduce the number of games they can play? Or how much they can spend? Idunno. It sounds kinda funny when you say it.
The guy is probably right. Big wheelies are what we all need. Oh but the Outlaws don't do big wheelies. Oh well!

Since I was staying in Brownsburg this past week I figured I would see if there were any races at the Lucas Oil Raceway and I saw there was an et bracket race on Sun so I drove by there to see how big a turnout they had. I was driving down the road on the west side of the track and I looked over at the grandstands and I thought they must have cancelled the race because there were no fans in the stands. When I got to the 4 way stop and made a left going next to the staging lanes there were a lot of awesome looking dragsters and door cars in the staging lanes and the pro pits were full of race haulers...but no fans in the stands that I could see. Maybe the fans just couldn't afford the $15.00 price for admission. Fans are always saying how much they love to watch sportsman racing...but they never seem to show up at the tracks to watch.

Bracket racing has zero spectator appeal. No one ever goes to those, even if it was free to get in. I believe it is awful that they run any kind of breakout classes at national events. People who pay big bucks to attend a national event, shouldn't have to sit through that, especially if they didn't know in advance.
What if Pro Stock had BIG motors? I watch the PDRA Pro/S and they are knocking on the door of a 3 second ET in the 1/8 mile with an 832 motor. That would translate to 6.20's in the 1/4 mile. On 2nd thought, they would become slow Pro Mods. Well, NHRA could do like P/S truck & move the class to Comp Elim........

Now this idea really has Merritt and since the Pro Mod guys don't want to run a full schedule anyway this just might be the ticket.
This would help bring down the costs of running Pro Stock at the same time.
Why not give it try because right now Pro Stock is slowing fading into the sunset with short fields and costs being out of sight.

No one will stay in the seats to watch Factory Stock. I still say, pay out more, and more cars will show up. How is reducing the amount of exposure a class gets ever going to help it?
Also, take the wheelie bars off completely, then it becomes more of a driver's (and chassis tuning) race.

This is Pro Stock. Carrying the wheels, rocker panel parallel with the ground. Whew...gets my blood pumping just thinking about those days.
Anyone know who was in the far lane? Just goes to show you its not always about the car but who is driving it. Nothing cool about a Monza, Pinto or a Colt.

In the pounds per cubic inch era, yup. In the 500 inch era ... not so much.
The far lane car is a Div 3 car, looks like a Mopar, maybe a Duster. If someone could read the car number, might be a clue to who the other driver was. Photo was 1976.
