Shenanigans

Unfortunately, for those of us that don't care for 4 wide racing, I think it's here to stay. The crowd that was packed into ZMax on Saturday told the story. Whether it was just because the big show was in town or the people really like 4 wide, who's to say. But whatever sells out a track is what the promoter is looking for. Why did I go, because the big show was in town. So I swallow my 4 wide medicine and watch.

I'll give them this: to sell out any drag racing event these days is an accomplishment. For those of you who are local to Zmax, how well was the event advertised in your market? Here on the west coast there is almost zero TV or radio - heck, any kind of race promotion. If you're not already a racer/fan you'd have no idea the most extreme sport on earth was in town! Just sayin'.... NHRA, are ya listening?

When the NHRA is in PA I definitely hear advertising for it on the radio and on TV, so they do make an attempt here. And Maple Grove always has a really strong crowd.

Norwalk is over 2 hours away but there are always ads on the Detroit stations

I think you guys are missing the point, what Bob is talking about is the Shenanigans in round 2 pro stock and not the 4 wide itself

So lets say just for the hell of it you find yourself at a "circus clown" race, where they run 4 cars at a time. You don't have a real good handle on some rule changes they made, and for now, you're sort of a second tier car. You find in the next round you are up against 2 rocket ship cars and a very close friend, who's struggling a little more than you are. So, in a brief conversation with your close friend an idea pops up. How about your struggling friend leaving on the stage light and fouling out by tons. At that point, one of the 3 cars still at the line is fully aware of whats happened and the other two are not. If either of the two falter for an instant, your second tier car may very well go to the next round, nah, never happen.

as per the NHRA:

W/L Driver R-Time E-Time Speed

(1) Chris McGaha (Harlow Sammons of Odessa Cama 0.121 6.734 208.04
(2) Bo Butner (Jim Butner Auto Camaro) 0.566 6.628 210.47
(3) Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment Cama 0.237 7.536 164.17
(4) Deric Kramer (American Ethanol/Novozymes Da -9.999(R) NT-Left Before Tree
Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 41 percent, barometer 29.34 inches, adjusted altitude 2,173 feet, track temperature 122 degrees.
Kramer left before the tree was activated and it appeared to throw everyone else off, but McGaha was first off the line, then Anderson and Butner. Anderson with sever tire shake to end his weekend. McGaha wins this quad and then Butner is next to advance to the final.

Finish Order & Margins: 1. Chris McGaha was 0.3392 sec./more than 100 feet ahead of 2. Bo Butner, who was 0.579 sec./more than 100 feet ahead of 3. Greg Anderson, who was Green ahead of 4. Deric Kramer who was Broke
