Today, the only driver born in America to win the F1 World Championship died. He was also the only driver to win the World Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same year (1961) and he did both in a Ferrari.

I had the oppurtunity to meet Phil a couple of times and he was sharp as a tack ... one of the great all-time raconteurs ... had a memory for many details from days gone by and was excellent at relating the experience of racing at Ferrari for the love of driving ... because Il Commendatore Ferrari was notoriously cheap ...
