RUMOR MILL - IS PRO STAGING A BIG-MONEY RACE AHEAD OF 2024 NHRA SEASON OPENER? (1 Viewer)

And only 8 cars in the field. High 3.60s will be cheap unless the weather goes nuts and drops a big cold front on them. I'd like to see somebody run 340 miles per hour just so we could put that alltime record to bed. I bet Robert Hight has been saying for 6 years now, "if only"..... (339.87, Sonoma, 2017). Might not be an official NHRA record but 340 is still 340. Everybody considers Eddie Hill first in the 4s despite it not being an NHRA record.

Somebody mentioned round money and I assume there's plenty of that - $1.3M purse and the winners get half of it.
If they let them run with no rev limiter you will see 340 if track is good.

@ the announcement they were talking about new ways to broadcast Drag Racing. Maybe they will get it right, especially if there is a large paid audience to watch?
Do the BEST thing! HIRE DEAN PAPADEOUS TO RUN IT!!!
And use his cameras!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if we will get an invite. I would be honored if we did but would understand if we didn't and as Kyle said the payout for the rest of the field might be the determinate on whether we go or not. If I were king for a day, I would make it a 3 run qualifying average to make the field. That would keep 'em on their toes, force full but safe runs, and make race day even more difficult and exciting because no one has had the chance to just throw down to test the track.

I’m sure if you expressed interest in going, I think you would get an invite. I’m fairly sure that a few of the touring would pass definitely leaving space for the some independent teams. Jason Galvin mentioned on his podcast that there is a 5 figure entry fee to the race as well. If that’s true, I doubt it would turn off any of the big budget teams but I think it would turn off most of the part time teams.

Actually Dean used standard definition Beta and VHS cameras, that was all that was available in the ‘80’s. What he could do with today’s technology boggles the mind!
Give him a week he could have NHRA TV on track to virtually rock your house while you are watching!

More than one car has already run 339+ with the timing retard in place. I think the cars are 'slingshotting' past it for lack of a better term in order to achieve those big speeds. I doubt they'd allow it to be removed anyway.

So maybe it'll happen. :)

not an NHRA event so it's up to the promoters and any team wanting to do it. Insurance might have something to say

Those cameras had the most real sound of nitro. Todays make it sound like a chainsaw.

It’s great that only one tour regular is missing (Laughlin). Now I’m interested in seeing if anybody adds a second car to their stable to double their odds of collecting the large check.
