Return to 1/4 mile (1320ft.)

There’s a reason no manufacturer besides GM provides technological support; it’s NHRA.
They penalize every manufacturer who threatens the GMs.
That is why it is time for restructuring the sanctioning body after decades of dominance and control of the market with a new business model and with a real advisory board of people who only wish all sanctioning bodies success. It is never a bad thing to be armed with knowledge.....

Then how did a Dodge win the last two Championships in the "Factory" class that receives the most support from the manufacturers today?

Alan

Great question being they kept adding weight til it was almost unsafe, chassis cert. and reduced pulley size, must of been hiding nitrous somewhere. The only way Dodge can win is to cheat right ??

Ken, Brian, Ted, and others,

You talked about identifying with the cars. Well, Factory Stock is stock bodies with current engines. Isn't that what you want?
The latest generation Drag Pak and COPO weigh the same (2525 lbs.)
Yes NHRA has to keep them in check, because a Stock chassis won't certify quicker than 7.50. That is a headache, a pain in the butt, and will piss off whoever needs to be adjusted.

But, the facts are still the facts. Stock bodies. Current engines. And the last two Championships won by Dodge.

This is just Pro Stock from the 1970's, with all the weekly adjustments to get the cars even, now you have to watch how fast they go because of chassis. In the end everyone complains and they just do 500 cubic inches LOL (sarcasm)

Well they have to throw them a bone somewhere might as well be the least watched class............messing with you.

Now if we could get a few more factory, body styles we might get young- ins interested. Again LOL because these models do not exist anymore either.
To be fair they did bring back the Charger so FS will be all MOPAR shortly and we can all bitch about that being a one brand series.....

I thought that was one of the reasons for Factory Stock in the first place, to appear more stock and showroom looking? I think that's a good thing. But, I also think Pro Stock is amazing and I have no problem with cars looking sleek and aerodynamic. They are going over 200 miles an hour and they have to be stable and efficient in the wind. They are bad ass race cars, and they should look like bad ass race cars! I say let them loose and let them be more creative and use Factory Stock as it's "Stock" alternative. I just liked when there were more body styles and more experimentation. Look at how many cars on the road are from Europe and Asia? Wouldn't it be cool if those body styles and maybe even factory support was there for professional Drag Racing? That would make the class way more interesting...

I suspect with the current rule, that body style does not have to match the engine manufacture, eventually some new styles other than the camaro will start to seep in.. For me the bigger issue is there are only 2 competitive engine builders in the class and the main problem there, is if i decide to rent a car/motor from either of the two teams, I'm gonna be handicapped, as I'm most likely never gonna run as good as the teams house cars

What happens with GM COPO program, now that Chevy is only building trucks?
@ least Mustang is still around and Dodge will will be offering that weird looking Charger

Not looking up stats but didn't the same two teams pretty much dominate Pro Stock for quite a few years? I love watching Factory Stock because it's a car that I could actually go buy. But...the Camaro is no longer in production leaving only two Factory rear wheel drive cars available. Don't see a solution.

Another problem is - that back in the 60’s-70’s, stock showroom/dealership average Joe street cars were readily distinguishable - just by body styles; bumpers, grilles, headlights and yes, colours as well. New cars of today - except for a few models - are barely identifiable unless you see the 3 inch logo badge or read the chromed lettering on the rear hatch. SUV’s and AWD mommy cars are the biggest culprit. I joke that you could put almost any emblem on any SUV hatchback and nobody would know or spot the difference. My God; even MUSTANG makes an SUV now. It’s really disheartening - I have no desire to shop for a new car for that reason… unless you’re looking for a high end sports car like a Corvette….. pick any white or grey SUV and call it good. And gadgets…. OMG people want the gadgets. Touch screens, saloon lights, WiFi and Alexa… USB ports, hands free doors, Back up cameras…. It’s a different world.
If new cars had some personality to them, maybe the manufacturers could carry over some passion into racing cars. I haven’t seen a Mazda CX-5 nitro funny car or a Hyundai Tucson Pro stocker yet. Maybe that’s what we need?????

Yes - they all look like "pregnant roller skates" now. I can't tell current cars one from another unless they are the Factory Stock type. Makes me miss a Ford Taurus wagon, or even an Oldsmobile Cutlass!

So here is a most likely stupid question: since sedans and coupes are essentially gone from showroom floors, why not allow trucks and SUV's into Pro Stock? Figure out a weight break to make them competitive or whatever else they have to do the level the playing field with much worse aerodynamics and them them fly. Think about how cool the class would be, haw amazing the trucks and SUV's would look in true ProStock trim, and how the whole crowd would be totally into it and always be rooting for the underdog truck, SUV, or even station wagon, but I don't think there are any domestic station wagons made anymore?. Does it really matter any longer? Time to evolve and bring back some mojo and excitement to a very important class. Again, just venting on a rainy day in So Cal........

Interesting thought but they all look the same right off the show room already 👀

I guess if you really think about it Top Fuel looks alike, Funny Car looks alike, Pro Stock looks alike, on and on. Still the greatest racing on the planet. I still think it would be cool to see a pick up against a camero or an SUV against a Mustang or new Charger. It would at least make the class instantly one of the most interesting, kinda like what Pro Mod used to be with all the classic bodies.....
