Ray Alley relieved of his duties at NHRA (1 Viewer)

word on the street is that this was Snake's deal and when KB found out he called August Busch the 4th and said they need to keep the $$$ in the family. KB also said he would do it for less $$$. If true I now know why Snake made those comments on TV.

Ouch!

Where'd the Kalitta rumors come from? DRO is saying it was Kalitta's, not Snake's.

From JROD - "All i am saying is since Ray hasnt touched a car in years that it's going to be a long year. what's the harm in that? Never said KB could not drive. there is no doubt there...all i am saying is it's not going to be easy unless he can get a someone who has actually touched a car this decade. I know Tim & Kim are there and have skills but lets callem like we seeum B Squared hasn't been running as well as he should"
Well . . . let's look at this!
1.KB will have all the AB bucks he needs to hire someone who is up to speed on latest technology to help Ray.
2. Ray has had access to all of the technology of every fuel team - you can bet your A$$ his replacement won't be able to bail to a team for big bucks!
3. Bud Prince "hasn't been running as well as he should" SAY WHAT? - Brandon is 96 points out of first place and running better with each race. Kalitta is stumbling, and if the Army team makes a misstep, Bud Boyz will be right there. If the air is good at Maple Grove, this will be a high speed war!
JROD - I had my doubts about the new PC Mater - but we have a couple of really good threads going here! - Jim

I cant even imagine a so called professional organization that does not protect its people (the racers)more than this. In this day of legal entanglements that the contract would not have already included a non compete clause is beyond me. No wonder Bruton still wants to take this over and he really needs to!

I wonder what all the people with campgrounds at Columbus are saying about this fine organization.

By the way how come they were able to fix the timing issue...Oh thats right another mess and had to bring the main man back. Pathetic just plain pathetic!

MORE ON BERNSTEIN AND THE MONSTER ENERGY DRINKS DEAL
(9-3-2006) - Torco’s Competitionplus.com has heard from reliable sources, and has confirmed with those involved, that a total of four race teams were in the mix for the sponsorship from Monsters, a product of Hansens that is distributed exclusively on a national basis by none other than Anheuser-Busch. Included n the chase were Don Schumacher Racing (either as a replacement sponsor for the departing Matco Tools or for yet another Funny Car), Kalitta Motorsports (with some involvement
from the now sidelined Jerry Tolliver, who had some involvement in the Kalitta Toyota program) and Don Prudhomme Racing. The consensus
of opinion is that Bernstein’s obvious connection to A-B through the Budweiser brand may have played a prominent role in the decision making.

In related Bernstein “news,” a significant number of PRO members, including some Board members, were less than pleased to find out their elected president had been in on the discussions with NHRA regarding the new points system and failed to alert them. As one Board member said, requesting anonymity, “If you can’t trust your fellow Board members, you shouldn’t be the leader. Why should I waste my time working for the organization when stuff like this is going on?”

I posed a question earlier regarding KB's position as president of PRO and got no response. I think there will have to be some "adjustments" made as soon as the dust settles.:)

I was wondering about those comments Snake made about saying when you retire that is it and not going back on his word. Now it all makes sense and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if what you are saying is true. We will just have to wait and see how it plays out but we may never know with a situation like this. It's all hearsay and it is pretty tough to get a person to admit to facts when they may be thought of in a negative way!

Amen Bruce Mullins....

Not like they are starting from scratch here... they are currently running a single car top fuel team that is runnin steady 4.50's & 330mph and is within 100 points of the lead... With the General in that camp, they will be fine.. It may take awhile to get going, but they will be fine...

And I'd take KB right now over 99% of the current drivers out there....

Kinda fits in with the New Points system......slow start, make "playoffs"

KB really likes the playoff format now!!:D

Kenny didn't get to where he is at today by making stupid decisions. He will surround himself with the best talent possible while the team may struggle in the beginning, he will be a threat to win some races by the end of the year. I would also be willing to say if he can start testing by the end of this year, there may not be any issues next year.

I'm sure Kenny will be fine after awhile. But for those of you questioning Jerrod's logic on R.A. coming back & possibly struggling with the tune-up initially, have you already forgotton about Connie & Scott Kalitta's return to Funny Car. Connie has 3 dragsters, 1 leading the points & all in the top 10, but his funny car program isn't up to par yet. There aren't any guarentees when it comes to perfomance... who can doubt Conrad's prowess in the sport, but it still doesn't mean instant success.

We shouldn't think that Jerrod is off base in saying that KB & Alley may struggle some next year, it's just an opinion and I tend to agree with him.

Nothing comes easy in racing.

SO-- Bernsteins gonna struggle for a year because him and Alley are rusty - maybe you should tell that to Dell Worsham & tim wilkerson it might make them feel better:)

question

How many World Championship Teams has Ray been part of?

Answer - I think he was associated with Bernstein on and off while Dale Armstrong was getting all those F/C World Championships in the 80's, yes?

And KB, Dale and Ray were the original partners in Racepak, also.

So anybody got the number of World Championships Alley's has made a direct contribution to?

Thanks

So, you think Kenny-boy and the Snake have gone on any Harley rides lately?

so using this logic how many championships has Goodyear and VP made a contribution to? Just cause you have money and top notch parts doesnt mean its an automatic win.

I am not saying KB or RA can't get it done. I just think that its going to be a long year. Funny Car is nuts and you have to bring your A game every weekend. If they do not pick up a known wrench they will struggle.

My guess is KB will not make the top 8!

logic????

Yeah, Jerrod, my question is a bit confusing.

To put it more directly, how many World Championships has Ray Alley earned as a crew cheif?

We know Austin snagged fifteen, Dale Armstrong got about 5 or more? Garlits has about three, Rahn Tobler with Shirley has three, Tim Richards with Joe Amato has about five, etc. (Dick Lahaie has three - all with dirrerent teams?)

Austin's record is astounding, isn't it? Only guy that comes close is Bob Glidden, maybe?

J-Rod, I agree. Scott Kalitta is coming around, but they struggled hard, and look at the brain trusth they have on that team, and they certainly aren't short on resources.

Scott is currently in 16th place. This is not a knock on that team at all, just the truth. FC is solid!

I think NHRA will learn a lesson from this incident. If and when they hire someone to replace Ray, it will probably be in the contract that if he/she resigns, then they will be banned from working with/on/for an NHRA team fo "X" number of years. This situation is kind of like Gaming Commission workers being allowed to frequent casinos and gamble. It will be an interesting next season for sure. I have a feeling a lot of teams will be giving Kenny the cold shoulder over this incident. BUT, then again, maybe Ray will totally crash and burn at the job also. I am getting my popcorn order ready now, thats for sure! ;)

The FINAL SOLUTION

The solution to this dilemma with Alley is obvious and involves doing the only thing the NHRA is outstanding at:

Make an ill conceived, unjust decision that benefits nobody and screws others:

Namely: Ban Ray Alley from participating in any NHRA category that uses methanol or nitromethane FOR ONE YEAR.

They have done this in their history plus they have double-secret-probations going on all the time plus they do it to cheating sportsmen racers as a matter of practice. They think they can do what ever they want, so they should do this!

Sorry to be so hard on you, Ray, but you shouldn't have busted Garlits balls so much when he wanted to take the monostrut out there again!
