you're killing me Terry and I had conversations about this some time ago....I had hope that he would see the light.
Can't tell you won wins what in nascar I left when they went to the chase. Drag Racing runs deeper in my blood but I am more detached from nhra since they have gone to this. Sure hope they gained enough people to make up for the many races, tec seats and watching every telecast that I used to do.
and I don't doubt that it may be better. After the first year when a wreck in the first chase race took out several of the top contenders several drivers have admitted to not racing as hard if they are not in the chase so as not to take out a contender. You have people racing other kinda racing...its another mess.
Terry Blount has a way of skewing the facts to make it look as though he is making some kind of strategic point.
Hmmmm!
NASCAR 10 of 36 races are in the chase = 27%
NHRA 6 of 23 races are in the chase = 26%
Hmmm! What exactly is Blount pointing out?
NASCAR 12 chase drivers out of 43 who race in the regular main event = 28%
NHRA 10 chase drivers out of what number 25(?) = 40%
or if you want to use the 16 in the final round = 62.5%
And Blount's point is that NHRA selects fewer drivers! Huh? What?
NHRA starts the chase at Indy! The point is?
And the focus of his story is that NHRA does it right and NASCAR does it wrong.
Unfortunately, the NASCAR community has to deal with his babbling mis-leading rhetoric on a daily basis.
The best thing NHRA has going for it is that Blount doesn't follow the series!
I like the "chase" system in both series and believe it has been good for racing in general. The additional interest and extra butts in the seats is what allows teams to race for a living. I don't see how that is a bad thing.
Maybe I'm messed up but i enjoy everything from drag racing to dirt and paved ovals, road courses and even cruises and car shows. Pretty much anytime it involves wheels and horsepower, I can find something to like about it. I go to each event or facility to have a good time being around motorsports. I don't really have the time to figure out what might be wrong with each type of event.
Sorry for ranting. I just really don't care for Terry Blount's storylines most of the time. Hmmmm! Looks like I found something to complain about!
This kind of prattle will only embolden Compton and Co. NHRA has already posted a link to this article on their facebook.
Both Chases stink. Saying one is better than the other is like having to choose between rat poison and beheading.
If NASCAR's Chase is any good on any level, why don't they do it in the Nationwide or Truck series? They don't need to sell more tickets or have more viewers too? Now if NASCAR emulates the NHRA countdown, as Brian France has been rumored to do, it will only swell Compton and Co's heads and allow them to overestimate their position in the natural order of things.
