"I'm sorry I voiced my opinion. The First Amendment doesn't apply on the return road."

"I'm sorry you charged me in a threatening manner and shoved two NHRA officials who thought you might have lost control of yourself, and that you took a swing at one of them for your elbow."

"I'm sorry my chin got in the way of your fist."

Yep.

Randy are you really that blind, Tony could have waited till someone came and shoved a mic in his face, rather than him running over to shove his face in a mic.

You are missing the point. It's a well known fact that laying down for the good of the team is happening and will continue. It's when someone gets in your face and says it ain't so is where the problem lies.

Randy, John cant say that he openly did it. I'm sure if it were up to him, he would have just stayed parked in the pits and let Robert take a single. But you know as well as anyone he cant do that.

Laughable. You never cease to amaze me Paul. You and NHRA can call them champions or whatever you want but it doesnt change the fact they won a charity championship.

So, if a JFR car wins it this year what will you call it? A "legitimate championship?"

Cruz mentioned that he knew who the real champion was at the banquet last year. Every other team had the same chance Cruz had to win the "charity championship."

"We report, you decide."

No Randy, there will never be another true champion again unless NHRA wakes up and goes back to the way things should be ran. Your telling me you'd like to have the most dominant funny car on earth for 20 races and then during the last several you get bet and lose the championship. It aint right.

And trust me, do I want a JFR car to win the championship this year? Absolutely. Will I still call them a charitable champion? Absolutely if they wouldnt have won it on real points over the season. If anyone other than Capps, Ash, or Tped win its just not right. They have had the 3 best cars all year.

I've got a question for you guys. I watched last night after I DVR'd it, so maybe I'm mistaken, but the thought just came to me that I remember Hight being all pumped up saying something about how great it was to come from where they were to making the countdown at the US Nationals, in so many words, but BEFORE the semi-final race. Am i mistaken? I would have to go back and check the tape, but if he said that after winning the 2nd round, it would make the outcome even more obvious. Did he slip?

Best advice would have been to take the 5th. When a guy shows "anger" to a TV interviewer for asking the question in his pit, says they are going to race "straight up" and stomps off to the ropes at the other end of his pit to get a group hug from Justin and his other die hard fans tells me there may be just a slight lack of respect for the average fans intellegence. Ray Charles saw it coming.

Unfortunate incident in my book. Force should call it for what it was and kept his mouth shut about it instead of insulting us, and Tony should have let it go.

As long as you are will to admit that if a JFR car wins it's a "charity championship" then I'm fine with that.

I am not a fan of the countdown. In fact, this is what we can expect from it in years to come.

Silly Savage, you are wrong about Tasca. I have the race recorded, and went back to watch the Tasca- Hight run. Tasca was behind, and you could see a little flame go up on the right side of the car. I am assuming that it was a burst panel that put the chutes out early, but again, HE WAS ALREADY BEHIND WHEN IT HAPPENED.
As for Force, it is painfully obvious that he threw the race, but it is not provable. It is an insult to everyone who has ever driven down the quarter mile, wide open, best car win. I have been a Force fan for years, he has absolutely been a great asset to the sport, and deserves a lot of credit for all he has done for us fans and the NHRA. That being said, I am afraid he has tarnished his image with me. I will always respect the things he has accomplished, but now he is in the same class as the steroid taking baseball players, and the ones failing the drug tests.

T-Ped was right, "John, don't ruin racing!"

To even compare throwing a race to a teammate to a ball player taking steriods is beyong stupid. Completely different things and you know it.

So here's a question for everyone who wants to stop the dives: what's a "team"?

When they go from one car to two, people think it's great: they share data, help each other when the one's turnaround is tight, share parts, etc. Teamwork at its best. Would they lay down for the other when the race means nothing to one guy and everything to the other? Hard to expect them to not dive, especially with sponsorship at stake.

When John builds a tight team with the big team rah-rah meetings, the rallying together after the tragedies, the struggling to get the team working earlier this year, a lot of people are pulling for them. Teamwork at its best. You say "good for John". But when he actually behaves like a team, everyone's up in arms.

And what's an alliance? Wilk and Tasca have one of those. Is that a team? They share data, parts, bodies, crew guys when the going gets tough. If they were in the same position as Force and Hight, with Ford looking over Bob's shoulder? Hmmm... I'm not so sure it would be any different, although a number of you indignant folks would say "no way".

Do you stop people from sharing data? Yes, you say? But sharing parts when the other guy's down is one of the things we love about the sport. Take Steve Johnson in Brainerd. Everyone was all aglow when that happened. And when someone has a massive fire and everyone on the planet comes and helps them make the next round, people sing "Hallelujah".

So where do you draw the line? How could you ever police it? If John had just had his .209 light (and not gone for the wall), we'd still be here, right? What light would've been good enough? Seems the only thing that would satisfy anyone would be him actually winning. Even if he did try his hardest and tune it with the best Coil/Fedderly could offer, if he lost "the fix was in".

Don't see how you can stop the dive. Not sure it's that important that you try.

For the guy saying "what do I say to my kid", you say: "It was really important to John's team to get Robert into the playoffs. The only way to do that was for John to let Robert win. Now he has all his cars in the playoffs and John's team has an even better chance of being a champion."

Amen.

Never been a Pedregon fan. Was a huge Force fan until he started pulling the multi car shenanagans. Was in the stands at Pomona when Tony P. threw his chance at a championship so John could have his 10 in a row. That was as obvious as yesterday.

John has been a huge asset to the NHRA. He probably single handedly saved the sanction many years ago when it started fading. Now I am afraid his ego and his power will do just the opposite. Drag racing is my favorite sport - but I am afraid it is headed the way of the WWF. and that SUCKS!!!

Personally - I think that teams should be limited to 2 cars in each class.

BTW Isn't is sad that the fact that John laid down for Robert (and he did) overshadows the fact that Ashley won? :(

What about the times that John laid down so Tony could win his 1st championship ??
Just wondering

Tony P. didn't have a dog in the fight and should have kept his mouth shut. In a cout of law he would have had no standing. Cruz, if he thought it was unfail or cheating should have filed a complaint with NHRA and requested a review. Do i think John took a dive? Sure he did but he had little choice. Drag racing is a business and he had a obligation to his sponsors to get their cars in the count down. This should have never been a media circus and everyone got hurt because of it. I think NHRA should take all three aside and caution thim that this type of circus won't be tolerated and severe fines or worse will follow if this continues. Further Don Schumaker should keep his nose out of it and his mouth shut. He more than anyone doesn't have any standing in this circus. JMO

Exactly righty. And who gave the orders that time?...and who did what they were told so they could keep feeding their family...that time?

Good grief. Are you kidding me? This guy was not destitute. His kids weren't going to starve if he didn't climb into that car and win a championship. If they were, he's an even bigger fool. I think you've gone a little over center with that analogy. For a championship that was handed to him, he sure didn't mind bragging about being a champion, even after he left that team.

I thought the same thing, he did a takeoff on the Mastercard commericals, basically saying that it was priceless to make the countdown after being twor rounds out coming into the race. This was the interview after the race with Tasca.

Get a life. Figuratively, not literally.

And since you like to read between the lines and full in the blanks, if TP liked it doing the jacknife off the high dive so much why did he chose to leave JF immediately and form his own team on the heels of winning the championship? Maybe he wanted to control his own destiny for a change? Maybe he knew 2 in a row for the lowly T-Ped was not up for discussion in the Oval Office? Just curious, because I don't care to know.

As far as bragging goes, all I ever heard out of Tony's mouth was how much he appreciated the opportunity Force gave him. I never heard him pat himself on the back. Can you post a link to a quote to help me out?

Over the years he has always said during interviews how he appreciative he was for the opportunity JF gave him, even after JF said TP wasn't his friend no-mo on Monday.

Low road? You decide.
