So here's a question for everyone who wants to stop the dives: what's a "team"?

When they go from one car to two, people think it's great: they share data, help each other when the one's turnaround is tight, share parts, etc. Teamwork at its best. Would they lay down for the other when the race means nothing to one guy and everything to the other? Hard to expect them to not dive, especially with sponsorship at stake.

When John builds a tight team with the big team rah-rah meetings, the rallying together after the tragedies, the struggling to get the team working earlier this year, a lot of people are pulling for them. Teamwork at its best. You say "good for John". But when he actually behaves like a team, everyone's up in arms.

And what's an alliance? Wilk and Tasca have one of those. Is that a team? They share data, parts, bodies, crew guys when the going gets tough. If they were in the same position as Force and Hight, with Ford looking over Bob's shoulder? Hmmm... I'm not so sure it would be any different, although a number of you indignant folks would say "no way".

Do you stop people from sharing data? Yes, you say? But sharing parts when the other guy's down is one of the things we love about the sport. Take Steve Johnson in Brainerd. Everyone was all aglow when that happened. And when someone has a massive fire and everyone on the planet comes and helps them make the next round, people sing "Hallelujah".

So where do you draw the line? How could you ever police it? If John had just had his .209 light (and not gone for the wall), we'd still be here, right? What light would've been good enough? Seems the only thing that would satisfy anyone would be him actually winning. Even if he did try his hardest and tune it with the best Coil/Fedderly could offer, if he lost "the fix was in".

Don't see how you can stop the dive. Not sure it's that important that you try.

For the guy saying "what do I say to my kid", you say: "It was really important to John's team to get Robert into the playoffs. The only way to do that was for John to let Robert win. Now he has all his cars in the playoffs and John's team has an even better chance of being a champion."

And thus John the driver says the 2009 US Nationals Trophy is not as important to me as getting my 4th car in the Countdown. But John the businessman gets the trophy. When you look at the Big Go's trophy and say "I don't want it", Maybe you need to keep the blue jeans on in the staging lanes and watch. ESPN2 can still wire you and we can still get all the cool and neat things you say Mr. Force. But let someone else in the field who's main goal is winning the sports biggest event.

No Randy, there will never be another true champion again unless NHRA wakes up and goes back to the way things should be ran. Your telling me you'd like to have the most dominant funny car on earth for 20 races and then during the last several you get bet and lose the championship. It aint right.
Ya know, this argument always cracks me up.

Lets go back and name the World Finals winner is named the World Champ.

Thats the way we used to do it.

It's easy to attract fans when you appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Brent,

Thanks for giving me a good laugh :)

90% of those at the Force ropes, don't have a clue about Drag Racing either!!!

Anyway I'm going to derail this thread, my highlights for Indy this year, were Grimes tuning Whitely to a 5.26 at over 271. Ken Perry taking the whole damn event. Steve Harker making the final, and Tony's win in TF. Low light, well you can figure this one out, ill give you all a head start.... JOHN FORCE.

My first post on the subject. Instead of making it where you have to scroll to catch my drift.!!

I'll just say WOW.

this thread is a matter of who likes who, the force haters will say he was wrong period. but the FACT is, that tony pedregon had NO problem diving for john force for 8 years, john dove for him in the last year of his contract so he won the championship, still no problem with that either, but now there is a problem because it bit them .the pedgregons have no class, thats a fact also. oh yes haters- ashley won indy :D

Spot on. As a gesture of good sportsmanship,Tony should do the honorable thing and give up the 2005 FC Championship that Force helped him win.

I dont know if some one already mentioned this BUT Tony has a championship to win Cruz Does Not , we are now into the countdown. What do you all think is going to happen if Tony and Cruz line up on race day ? My bet is that Tony will win.

Very Interesting Thought! I'd give a weeks pay to see that :)

Tony's still got it! That lack of class that keeps on giving. Thanks Zippy!

Dude, WTF is your problem for someone calling out the stench called JFR race day tactics? You say Tony as a lack of class, but what do you say about someone making drag racing into a WWE main event like John is doing? If John raced heads up like other organizations than there would be no need for other teams to state the obvious.

heck, the whining and crying about the "diving" on the TV broadcast is far more annoying than the actual "diving" is

Hopefully all of Tony's and Cruz's sponsors go elsewhere , cause I am sure there are other teams that are much more deserving AND have a ton more class than those two clowns.

Used to be a TPed fan, but today's "show" was terrible. Come on, there was NFW John dove in that round. Let it go Tony. Win races, and flap your gums a little less...
