Norwalk in Trouble

Flash.... 50 legged centipide in danger with red lights on poles; extinction possible; air port & track to shut down...... Sorry, couldn't resist. :-)

Once again, I'll repeat, Columbus is a dump. No way could it ever compare to Norwalk. Our season tickets are halfway up in the grand stands at Norwalk and we can see ALL THE WAY down the track. We could never see squat at Columbus.

Same with all the tracks the NHRA owns or have owned.

It has only been sold in the last few months, give it some time the new owners have big plans. They are already fixing it up, repaving the track surface right now.

What are they gonna do with the short shut down area at Columbus? Wild hair...run 1/8 mile Pro Mod races. PDRA? ADRL? That would be interesting.

anything but nitro, unless they continue to shut down the road and cross into the farmers field. Then again the only nitro would be a yearly event.

We ran the fueler at Columbus when the Bowling Green event got moved for 2007. Everyone must have hated it, because that event went back to BG in 2008.

Justin, do you mind if I ask you a question? If you could run the nostalgia dragster with top alcohol tires & a wing, how quick could it go? Was thinking that even with a 6:71 blower, that 5.30's and close to 280 would be possible. Just curious.

I am not really the right guy to answer that. I am not a tuner, nor did I pay attention to that stuff. I really wish I did, when I had the chance. We use to run against "Dragster Dave" from Illinois. He had a late model Hemi with alky slicks. That car should have ran 5 flat. But, at the time, they barely were in the 5's. I have not stayed on top of how they are doing now, so I am not sure how far into the 5's they have gotten. Their crew chief has a modern A/Fuel car that his daughter drives. I believe the team is Anderson Family racing, or something along those lines.

Anywho, Bartone owned the NT/F for the past few years. He would run to about 900' and click it, and still ran in the low 5.50's. He has the current record at 5.531. Miss Nitro Kitty just won the March Meet with a line of 5.50's all weekend. And this is on a 12" tire, 6.71 stock helix, 21gpm pump, about 430cuin, no clutch management, and direct drive. I would imagine that by 2020, we will have a couple 5.49 passes.

Thanks for the info Justin. I know that Bartone ran 274 in a test in Florida a few years ago & I think he ran 270 at Bakersfield. That got me to thinking that T/AD with a blower can run 5.17 and 277. So if Bartone could run 274 on 12" tires, what could he run with "big" tires? Guessing that HP is similiar between T/AD & Nostalgia T/F. Just thinking that if Nostalgia T/F could run "unlimited" that even w/ 6:71 blower, you could see 5.20 - 280 +--. The technology has improved soooo much over the years that even a little blower car can run fast. There are a couple of Nostalgia A/F cars that run blown on alky, 6:71 blower, & they have been around 6.19 at 226. I was told that this combo has ability to run 5.90's on alky. Wow......

Kin Bates and Drew Austin ran 5.99s all weekend at the March Meet in Nostalgia A/Fuel. Bates with an injected nitro Chrysler 392 hemi, and Austin with an injected nitro Ford 429 hemi. They have two speeds, 15" tires, and a max of 550cuin.

I love watching those 2 cars. Saw them in Phoenix a few months ago at the Heritage opener. Really thought Austin would run a 5 in the final, but they had to shut it off. That was a great race, cool & overcast the whole weekend. I've been going to that race since it started in Phoenix area a few years ago, at the late Speedworld. Glad it is still run at Wild Horse.

When I lived in Phoenix, besides obviously going to Firebird, I really enjoyed going to Speedworld. Such a cool little track, how sad that it had to close.

Amen Brother. I started going to Speedworld in 1986, when the late Bob Curley ran it. I really miss that place. Lots of great memories.
