Norwalk in Trouble

Odds are if he shuts it down he will never get permits to build another, people will be NIMBY, not in my back yard.
Happened on Long Island where i am from, people succeeded in shutting down the Hamptons, now there is an all concrete "track" in Calverton that can't get past the locals. It is the old Grumman runway, longer than any track in existence, fuel cars could coast to a stop, IIRC about 10,00 feet, it was where the did the test flights. Daily flights or racing on weekends........

I'm not sticking up for the airport, but note that the traffic pattern at small airstrips such as that one don't follow what many might think. Search for airfield traffic pattern for more info...

Heck there was one event where they even had us drive on the runaway to get off the grounds. It is not a very busy airfield.

I can't see a pilot going near the track (or light poles) then making a 90 degree quick turn to land. We have a small airport near work and I've never seen that happen

Here is an earth view of the track and airport, arrows and text that I added point to the the ends of the track and airport....

That is so strange. I could understand if the aircraft had to pass over the airport like Pomona, but nobody should be near the light posts on final approach. You may be able to follow 157, bank then land but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing so! I don't think anyone is flying inside of rt. 157 landing. Now taking off may be the issue but there is no need to bank right after take off (unless there another airport nearby).

I would bet there's more involved than this airport. There's a group that wants this track shut down and they're using airport. Either for the land or they hate autoracing. KCIR got screwed same way and land is still vacant, it stinks

You guys - Its an airport. There are FAA standards for airports. The standards are there for a reason. The lights violate these standards. Period. Its not a conspiracy.

a customer and good friend of mine (RIP) used to race his Cord 812 against the airplanes taking off from there when leaving work at Grumman

Standards are fine , its when they decide to enforce thems the problem. Both places have been there for many years

From what I have read ( local papers) the track installed the light poles without permits..............................

It is a commercial facility I guarantee permits were required, electrical, foundation .........structural drawings.......
