Here's another question - do people object to the 1/8 mile for the pro categories only, or just object to it overall? My experience has been with local 1/8 mile tracks it's almost exclusively for the sportsman class, including a rare showing by an alcohol car or jet exhibition vehicle.

I can get with not having the pro stock, funny car, and top fuel classes on a 1/8 race but for everything else, I could live with it.
Only one thing remains, right?
Take what ya brung, whoop on it as hard & as quick as ya can, stomp on everybody's noogies, make it stick - make it sting, come early , come ugly - if all goes well and you don't explode sumthin' this seems like an activity people would like to repeat... Whatever the given track length; is subjective, as Alan has put it before: "Waaaaaaay too much horsepower" is making it stick and look good doin' it.
My wife & I have had the "opportunity" shooting at the guardrail (or two) to have a supercharged whatever or NOS PM or whacked out altered burnin' who knows get loose around 330-660' and I must say you don't have time to twitch or pray, say the first syllable in the letter "O" or mess thine drawers, it can get ugly quick any time (like the "short" bell ringer Beckman went on) - let's remember these are real people thrashing for dollars, at least I thought it always was. Race hard, race safe, race often, follow the rules and be helpful to each other. More rules like dat. LOL
