NHRA/IHRA NITRO

I want the IHRA to survive. It gives some of the low funded teams a chance to compete and improve their performance while at least making some money to help fund their dream. The organization seriously lost a lot of money this weekend. The turnout was no better than a NHRA regional race. The tickets sales alone isn’t going to pay the staff let alone the payouts of the racers. Without even crunching the numbers I would think the loss is at least half a million dollars if not a lot more. Maybe there is some sponsors to cover some of it but I don’t know how sustainable it is. I’m sure they didn’t expect instant success and it should only get better going forward. But if the next couple of events lose a significant amount of money they may have cut the season short.

I actually thought about this two weeks ago when they announced the purses. They would have needed to sell a minimum of 7,500 seats each day (Friday and Saturday) at $40 each just to cover the purses. Hopefully they have sponsors too, because I definitely want to see it succeed.

I had also heard during the broadcast that they gave away 250 tickets to veterans. If half of them showed up the paying crowd was even less. I bet (hope) Milan gets a much better crowd. I know this was the first event but they need to do a better job of staying on schedule. Yes there was a lot of obstacles this weekend but they seemed to spend a lot of time on track prep. NHRA takes a lot of heat for many things but they do a great job of sticking to a schedule and getting an event finished. Yes there was pros get priority but they are the ones the spectators are paying to see.

Not sure if it was posted here but the Good Guys car show was in Columbus this weekend, probably took away spectators.

And if the product is horrible, this will be short lived. Sorry, but I had higher expectations. Great someone won $50k, but the racing was shit. Again, I am speaking of the fuel show. Why would the NHRA mention the 2 seat TF car? It’s a gimmick. Fingers crossed today is a better show, I really want this to be successful and an alternative for the NHRA on off weekends.
.98 and .91 60ft times didn’t feel like a gimmick to me. Or tire shake and pedal jobs.

Yeah. That was a rough weekend. Guys, let’s keep it encouraging here. I hope they learn from it and recover.
I agree. From what I understand they treated all of the racers like kings and truly appreciated them. They admitted there would obstacles pop up and serious learning experiences taken. Overall, apart from the fire, I think they did pretty well. I would advise them to take a look at the Nitro Chaos program and see how they keep things constantly moving with little lulls or downtime.

It seems to me that the time between passes was way too long. When a car would be down the track. The next pr were still pulling out from the tower.
Or am I missing something. That's my complaint, other than that I enjoyed last night show. It reminded me of racing in the 70's-80's.
I really hope IHRA makes it so that the lesser $$ teams have a playground.

Watched the finals this morning, great show and the track realy came together.
I'd say they did a great job considering it's their 1st. show.
Saw many fire suites with NHRA on them, and giving my respect to IHRA for not throwing a hissy fit and making them be covered.

Yeah, I guess they weren't being as picky as NHRA about stuff like that. Most of the teams, heck all of them, probably run NHRA and "have" to have NHRA's logo on their team shirts and fire suits and they aren't going to go out and buy new fire suits for a couple IHRA races.

I'm shocked Del didnt clean house honestly. He's a big dawg in the nhra. I guess being a new car and figuring out a tune up.

Same with Foley, runs 3.82 but couldn't be consistent.

I'm a huge ihra fan and loved seeing the lower budget nitro cars run, and make the bigger Dawgs earn their wins.
