If u put any category in the place of pro stock on Sunday, whether its Pro Mod, nitro Harley, nostalgia funny cars, or whatever, I believe u will still see the same mass exodus from the bleachers after the last pair of nitro cars. Most people have been sitting in the stands for at least an hour. watching oil downs, cleanup etc. The Nitro cars are the headliner act and as soon as they are done, all of the casual to remote fans want go potty or get something to eat.

Wasn't really sure if this deserved it's own thread or just tack it on here. But I decided to go back and do some work with 2016 versions of the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang. I posted this on Twitter last night and got some response from it. So I thought I'd share it here as well.
I think I'm gonna to do some Factory Showdown cars next. I might throw in a Funny Car as well, not sure yet.

Everyone is searching trying to understand why TV viewers are down along with racers , sponsors and other things.
I simply see peoples interests are changing away from drag racing, stock car racing, golf and many other forms on entertainment.
I even notice the guys at the car shows who tell me that selling any cars from the mid 50's back is not easy these day's and they are certainly not bringing the kind of money they did 5 years ago.
We must realize there will always be drag racing at a local level at your local drag strip but drag racing on a national level is what's it in trouble right now.
I find it interesting that many local drag strips seem to be doing much better then the national events.
In the future I would not be surprised to see 8 to 12 cars in the Pro Classes and smaller crowds.
I hate to see this happening but today there are just so many other forms of entertainment.
A friend of mine said he asked his three sons if they would rather go to a drag race or a monster truck show and off they went to watch the truck show.
What worked for the major drag racing associations for the past 25 years no longer appears to be working.
Just my opinion.

You can thank all of the car auctions on TV for this phenomenon. IMO, Barrett-Jackson/Mecum has ruined the collector car/hot rod industry. People see a resto-mod all steel 57 Chevy go across the block for 150K (or more), now they think their car is worth something in that neighborhood. Then they get pissy with you when you make a fair offer based on real market forces, they think you are trying to steal it from them or lowball them only because of what they see on TV.
Also, the cars that used to bring the money were all Baby Boomer cars. There are less and less boomers every year, and the folks coming up today don't have the buying power with a dollar that the boomers had. I know I can't do on my salary what a comparable salary in the 50s/60s/70s could do. And those same folks coming up today came up with Hondas and Toyotas and just don't have the same relationship with cars. People under 50 looking for a cool car are much more likely to buy a new Bimmer they can finance than an old Vette or Mustang where they have to pay for it all up front and actually maintain it. Can't even sync your iPhone to an old car LOL.
Lastly, we are now in our 4th or 5th generation of people owning cars. It is just not that big of a deal anymore to own a car. Everyone that everybody knows has a car. It is not the symbol of freedom that it used to be. Now, they are just an appliance to get you to and from work and you spend more time sitting in traffic than actually driving. In the very near future, you won't even have to drive. Apple/Google/Tesla/Uber will do it for you. You won't even own the car, you will just subscribe to a service thru an app on your phone to get you where you need to go when you need to get there, like an "on demand" automated taxi service.

I think the rev limiter will help lower cost as the drivetrain takes a beating as it is but 11K 12K rpm the drive chain needs to be able to stay intact and run without exotic parts to keep the drive train weight down. Valve springs are perhaps the most replaced and expensive.

Compared to the 1950's - 1990's there are a lot more different extreme sports today. When my godson turned 10 years old I took him to the track to see if he was going to be interested in jr dragsters. He sat in a couple of them, and watched them race. On the way home I asked him if he wanted to race a jr, and he said no, its too boring, and you do more waiting than anything else. He's into stuff like the X-games where they always have something going on. These days at a NHRA national events the tractors that, sweep, and drag the track seem to make more "runs down the track" than all the pro classes combined during a race weekend.
