New Pro Stock rules released in Denver today

I have been a fan of Pro Stock since it started but I don't think the changes they have implemented will help this class much, I do like the fact they opened up the pits, I have never understood hiding the car other than to play mind games with the competition. Now changing from 500 in motors, you will never find a Pro Stock engine builder to agree with it. I have read articles that Nick (Elite) has wrote and he's not a fan of changing motor or body because of work they have done on aero design. I have been watching some of older videos of PS and I like the stock appearing body better than the bubble they have know, if you look close to these new cars everything on the exterior of body is rounded no actual factory look to it, so I'm in favor of the stock appearing body 100%. It will probably slow them down a little but it will make a better show.

I don't get it. I was in Vegas 2 years ago and as soon as the Fuel cars ran the stands emptied as Pro stock ran. You see races decided by less than a nose almost every lap. WTF. There is no smoking the tires or one sided races. To me best racing out there . And why hasn't corporate America latched on to Erica ? Cute girl and a great driver ... also a world champ !!! I don't get it .......

Have a challenge out to our maters with the artistic ability to do a rendering of a stock appearing 2015 Camaro, Charger, and Mustang Pro Stock race car. Maybe with a cowl induction hood. I know I may be asking a lot but I think it would give us a better idea of how the Pro Stock car of the future should look.

Chris; Why would corporate America latch on to any driver in a class, as you stated yourself, the stands empty when they come up? Makes absolutely no sense.

Sponsors don't care about Butts in the Stands, its all about TV Ratings and Air time you get them, this is where NHRA is dropping the Ball, if they showed EVERY Car instead of skipping some of the independents so they can do Puff Pieces about Peoples Cats and their workout routines. Their is a place for that to get fans their Fix about their favorite drivers personal life and that would be NHRA Today ( which needs to come back), but in the Qualifying show and the race show every damn pass by every driver entered in the Pro Classes. If you never went to a drag race in person and only watched on TV you would barely know that they do a Burnout before the Run. And treat Every driver entered equally, today's privateer field filler could be tomorrows star if he can stay out there racing. And Show all the Friday night qualifying runs not just the Saturday its hot so everyone is smoking the tires runs, again cut the filler and there would be time to show them. <end rant>

The home recliner emptys just like the bleachers when they come on. Most everyone I know records the broadcast and hits the fast forward thru the pro stock cars and motorcycles. They get no TV time anyway. Perhaps 1or 2% care about P/S anything

I amazes me what some of the "diehard" fans of drag racing are saying on this board. Personally, I love the Pro Stock cars. I love the sound of a 500 cubic inch normally aspirated motor at idle. And when they bring it up on the limiter before the launch, goosebumps. And it is some of the consistently closest racing we have. I am NOT one of the "fans" who heads for the head or beer lines when they come up.
But, I agree with others, I am not sure what they are proposing would help. Maybe making the cars appear more stock might help, but I am not sure. I miss the factory wars, Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge.
We use to have very colorful characters, who weren't afraid to speak their mind. And the burndowns, like we saw a little of in last weeks finals. But with such reliance on the big sponsors, they have gone by the wayside. I do not see how we will ever get back to that kind of racing.
I am very worried for the class, seeing the small car counts. Maybe NHRA needs to speak to some of the Sportsman racers, like in Comp, to see what it would take to get them to move up. I know, the answer is cubic $$$$.

I'm guessing u work for the neilson company and apparently they have detectors that can tell when u get off your couch and go into another room !! amazing !!!

Actually I have worked for survey firms in my checkered past and you'd be very surprised at what they do and don't know.

There are drag racing fans and there are nitro racing fans. When I'm at the track I use the bathroom when I need to and get food when I'm hungry, don't care who is running.

I wish NHRA would find a way to keep people in their seats for all the classes. Nothing more annoying than sitting in the stands trying to watch all the racing as the hordes stand and try to leave after the nitro classes.

No touching during the burnout - agree (safety hazard)
No hood scoops - agree (safety)
Fi - agree (about time)
..................But...................
Mandating what way you park in your pit - ridiculous
must be 10ft or less from rope - ridiculous
Must have brand name in windshield - what next certain colors ? isn't racing already over regulated??

If people in the stands leave when PS cars run, imagine what the guy at home with a remote in his hand does. Either fast forward, or channel surfs. You have to know that when the sponsors see the stands empty, they know the same is happening at home.

I agree. If people are not interested in seeing them go down the racetrack, they have no interest in seeing them close up in the pits.

The jury is out on "no scoop" IMHO.

Once they built cable boxes that let the user access content held on a separate server (think On Demand) they had the two-way communication they needed to monitor each and every user and their viewing and recording (DVR) habits. Nielsen is a has-been, though they still use the name, all advertisers and providers/producers of the content we watch have all the real (true) numbers at their fingertips, at anytime they want it. They even publish how many people DVR certain shows, but usually, you never hear the cold hard numbers. It's quite controlled, and even exploited now. Remember "sweeps" weeks and all the discussion that would go on about how each station would place special viewer-grabbing shows to artificially pump up their viewer numbers just before they sat down for negotiations with advertisers to get the most money they could? Well, they still do it, but it's also padded with even more dubious techniques. Ever wonder why your cable box seems to turn to a certain station when unattended for a few hours or more? That's a push technology that they can use to artificially raise the viewership of certain stations for a better bargaining position when discussing advertising costs/charges. It's usually one of the big 3 it will switch to, either ABC/CBS/NBC. Can't tell you how many times I've gone to sleep watching ESPN or HBO or some other channel only to wake up hours later finding the cable box has turned itself to one of those cruddy channels, and to my amusement and anger at times, to soap operas (which they are trying to save in vain).

It's quite true. You're being watched.

Well, at least your viewing habits are.

So no, they can't tell if we get up and do other things when Pro Stock is running, but they have the ability to gather information like how many individual boxes are tuned in, how many of those are recording, how many are watching another channel as it records, or fast-forwarding/rewinding through the recorded/buffered content. I doubt that they actually gather the fast-forward info, but they certainly could if they chose to do so.
