Maple Grove- Sunday Eliminations (15 Viewers)

matt with a utube short out today
I thought for sure when I saw the title it was Matt apologizing for saying something in the heat of the moment. Glad he's doubling down on this. From race two (I believe it was) with Johnny Gray you could see there was a problem.

Out of curiosity, has there ever been any actual scientific analysis on the correlation between vinyl wraps and these body incidents?

I'm far from an engineer but these cars have burst panels. Make them much larger. They are obviously pumping more fuel into these to make them quicker and faster but they are not compensating for a catastrophic failure. Take JFR for instance, they have burst panels on the topside running parallel of the supercharger. widen the panel double or 75% more with a tether or the other body styles, enlarge them 50-75% larger. tethered of course. I believe that would allow for the concussion of the explosion to exit quickly and allow for the body to stay intact. If you lenghen the tethers to allow the body to clear the chassis, where is it going to land? the side and jerk the car to the wall or the other lane? Everything is body wraps so it would be simple to have the wrap perforated or blended in with the sponsor that the fan wouldn't even know the difference.
this seems like a practical solution to the problem. why no comments ? another question, since so many drivers are anti-tether, would a boycot be feasible ? and finally, Alan Reinhart, I would also like to hear your take on subject.

Good thing they decide to only broadcast 3 PS pairs per show, no one will know.
Seriously, why would anyone sponsor a PS car these days with little or no TV exposure on race day?
Who made this decision? NHRA? Fox? Sucks either way.
IT seems like nhra hates ps,or at least trying to kill the class,if i was a sponsor id be furious on the lack of coverage. Foxs broadcast this year has not been good from the previous years.

My additonal thought on this issue is. They have been claiming that T/F consumes approx. 15 gallons of fuel per pass For many years now. Start to finish..... Start, burnout, back up then go. I'm led to believe to acheive the e.t.'s and m.p.h. today, they are consuming much more per pass than 15 gallons of fuel that they bragged about to the viewers. Problem is that they didn't address is the size of the body burst panels due to the increase of fuel into the motors. Does this or doesn't this make sense?? The bigger the amount of fuel going in must need a bigger exit coming out if it chooses Not to leave the headers!

As I recall he was trapped in a burning car wasn’t he?

I've been wondering if the vinyl wraps are adding just enough enforcement to keep the body from bursting apart into smaller sections, eliminating that large area that blocks the view.
Also is the Carbon fiber contributing to the problem.

when i first read this i thought you were referring to intake burst panels. then i realized you meant body burst panels.
last year (2024) at brainerd, we had the jr todd retrofit with napa body incident. while watching that thrash take place, i was standing next to the dhl
body jr had just destroyed. i don't pretend to know differences in body burst panels from one team to next, but i will say i saw the physical panel that had
been dislodged from the dhl toyota body. the area of the panel was much larger than i would have ever guessed. 3 distinct holes. if memory is correct,
the piece that blew off, or separated was a single piece that mounted around the 3 holes??

Good point. I know the burnouts have gotten significantly shorter over the years. I think that could save a gallon or two.
