Why are the commercials so dam loud when the races are on,i wish the broadcast sounded half as good as the commercials. Thought i read somewhere that its a fcc violation for the commercials to be louder than the actual program???
In Canada we receive Fox NHRA races through our cable network, Rogers broadcast as Fox Sports Racing a separate network set up for other than the American audiences. For the last three years through some deal they have with Canadian broadcast overseers we not only get loud commercials but we get the same loud obnoxious ones for the last three years. Advertising those shows that insult the consummate racefan. i.e. Car Warriors, Are You Faster Than A Redneck and Dumbest Stuff on Wheels, always in that order to name a few!
If I am forced to watch these races, I record them and fast-forward through the ads which can be up to five minutes.
It drives a person crazy and if a network were to do that to a major stick and ball sport there would be a mutiny of that sport, not only by fans but the sponsors.
I have tied to contact my cable provider to no avail, as they are too big and hold a monopoly in Canada.
My solution to the problem is NHRA All Access, the best thing for a hardcore fan such as myself.
That's the ticket. Don't think I've watched a minute of Fox coverage all year (and I do miss some of the features).
Just set it up in the morning and it runs all day (easy enough to rewind if I have to step away for a while).
'Then there's always YouTube (many of the Fox features show up there).
It has to do with digital signal processing and the way humans hear. Most programs try for the highest quality sound which means it includes all the highs and lows, i.e. a wide range of frequencies. Some frequencies are barely audible yet are part of the available signal space - along with background noise - and consume some of the power required to broadcast it. To make matters worse the exhaust note of a race car is very low frequency and can be difficult for some to hear except at elevated levels, which is why nothing compares to actually being there and feeling the sound!
By clipping the very high and very low frequencies the sound in the mid-range space is more dense, and this md-range is where the average person’s hearing is best. Even at the same power level it sounds louder without actually being louder. Advertisers are aware of this phenomenon and use it to their advantage by carefully focusing the audio into this range.
I could even watch it if they changed the commercials, but three years of the same insulting to the gearhead community, moronic crap has forced me to abandon Fox Sports Racing as seen in Canada!
I leave the room, its hard for me to record it and watch later, cant stay away from social media and internet so i dont want to spoil my surprise as to who won lol
