Well, I dont know about the feedlot issue, but that isnt quite the whole story in Lincoln.
A track was proposed, there was a primary name, with silent, racing, but non-drag racing backers. Those in the area will figure that one out.

They were willing to go the extra mile with financing, but the original proposer could never come up with the funds to acquire the land, and tried to buy some key (read Expensive) sites. They sold the idea without having key pieces of the plan in place.

Scribner was for sale, but its location has always been an issue, Omaha has Glenwood, (1/8mile) where short sightedness prevailed, and Lincoln seemed like an ideal location.

But word around O is that land was never seriously negotiated for, and the break even based on car count would limit what would ever get built.

Dont shoot the messenger, that is what I heard from some Omaha based racers this summer that had driven back from KCIR.

Thanks for the update, Greg. I think I should have prefaced my remarks with "this is what I heard". Most of my info came from racing friends of mine around Ceresco, and a lot of it could have been hearsay. I am on the board of directors of Kearney Raceway Park, so we try to keep up on what is going on in reference to construction of new tracks, closing of existing ones (Scribner) etc. But since most of the dealings are usually hush-hush, what we get is often tainted and I shouldn't have presented it as verified facts. If the deal fell through because of lack of funding or lack of viable land purchases, I will feel much better than if it crashed because of environment and local resident concerns as we had heard. Anyway, thanks for the information and keep me posted via pm if you hear anymore on the Lincoln proposal or any activity in resurrecting Scribner, ok? Thanks!

Charlotte's the last place in the Country I expected the Bluehairs to protest a Dragstrip! But I guess a circle track wouldn't face such hurdles I guess!

There is more to it than BLUE hairs protesting.. that area is mostly motorsports people living and working... there is more to it than the complaints listed...

Think its more of Brutons company constantly believes they are above local laws and ordanaces... and many busines owners who have to abide by them are complaning about his side stepping...

Jackie .. i wouldn't dout if it doesn't end in court.. but...don't believe the City and the county doesn't have a leg to stand on.. and they are one of the largest populated areas of NC.... so forget the "Small Town" thought...

Whats funny is most of the residents of the area are motorsports employeed....lol and they are complaining...lol

Motels do have a legit complaint...about night noise.. there has been a long standing fued with the area and Bruton over the Dirt track.. suposedly it got the go ahead for begin built..but only under certin scheduling.... which has not been abided by.. only a certin number of events and have to be done by a certin time....

i am willing to bet they feel he will go beyond any agreement ..again... and want to nip this one right off the start...

While i would love another strip to go to... i think he is in for a fight on this one.... more than he expected.. or even wants....

Billy

My info was third party also, some racers. But the racers were really hoping that what they told me wasn't true, and it may not be.
I had also heard that when Scribner went up for sale there was an interested buyer, but I never heard why that went away.
Glenwood seemed like a natural, and by short sightedness I mean that it was built as an 1/8th mile, but if you look at an aerial view of the site you would be pretty hard pressed to expand to a 1/4.

The whole Scribner thing has been a portrait in weird the last couple years. Rumors of it closing for good have (as I'm sure you know) been going around since they shifted back to NHRA from IHRA. And to make it even stranger, the former owner of Scribner is rumored (there's that word again) to be looking for a place to build a new track or possibly acquire an existing track to develop. There were some conversations between KRP and this gentleman, but at this point they were just that--conversations. Curiouser and Curioser!
Keep in touch, Greg!
