Does anyone have a link to an image that shows where all the foam blocks are on the track? Seems like a lot of them as of late (1000 foot speed traps for nitro cars probably added a few...) Just looking an overhead showing all the blocks and which ones (speed, ET) they are...

I don't have a picture, but I can tell you where they are.

1 at 60'
1 at 330'
1 at 594' (beginning of the 1/8 mile speed trap)
1 at 660'
1 at 934' (beginning of 1000 ft speed trap)
1 at 1000'
1 at 1254' (beginning of 1/4 mile speed trap)
1 at 1320'

OK, after reading Mike's post, maybe just the one at 934' was added. Still, the picture in the "Drag Racing 101" link that I included above is a good one.

Thanks MM and M.... I must have missed the one at 101 although it doesn't show the speed cones... Showing a newbie the physical lift points before we get to the track for licensing...

Don't lift til after the scoreboards!

Back in the day they used to have an additional point to measure speed after the finish line. Hence the term "run it out the back door" for big MPH.

I think it was about 66ft. before the finish line and 66ft. after the finish line..............run her out the back door indeed!

yepper, speed trap was 132 feet (1/10th of a 1/4).... I lived on the top end... and Top Time of the meet was as important as low et, if not more...

Why is it 1000 ft anyway, shouldn't it be 990 ft? 660 + 330 = 990. 1320 - 330 = 990.

NOT a good subject to approach here!! :D

Although running it out the back door is a blast, it's kinda frowned upon when licencing (watched a kid going for her 12.90 jr licence last weekend- ran 2 10.8 passes... Parental FAIL!! :p)

Easier to teach them before we get to the track about what to be looking out for (Yes- I do approach it like a schoolteacher... ;))

This doesn't have much to do with the cones, but mentioning kid going to fast
I have a friend whose daughter broke out really bad at Heartland and track officials made the team leave the track immediately. That really shocked me I never heard that before.

It's a pretty strict rule in the Jrs Jesse... Everyone knows that you aren't supposed to go too quick/ fast for your group, and if you do, the punishment can be everything from a slap on the wrist to suspension from that track for good- it all depends (I assume) on the track's relationship with their insurance carrier.

Any type of racing incident is bad, but one that involves a child, especially if that child's parents are negligent in preparing their child to race properly, can jepoardize not only that kid's life but also the investment made by dozens of other parents into their child's racing career- a track's entire jr program can get cut quicker than snot. That multiplies if the child is driving beyond the speed that has been established in the rule book.

Tossed out of the track? Yeah- they p!ssed someone off with that pass...
