I hate these kind of posts but....

I couldn't help but notice all of the empty seats at Phoenix, especially during the semis. Lots and lots of empty seats. Not good.

It was a pretty good turnout considering it was 100 degrees. It took forever to get through the crowds with the race car and golf cart. They stayed around for the pictures and had a great time from the looks of their faces.

Hate to ruin your doom and gloom post with positive facts but the reality is there were alot of people on the grounds. The pro pits were packed.

There are just to many things to do on a Sunday in 2011 vs. 1995.
It's that simple. Not just a drag racing problem. It's a problem for all sports where TV has become so so so much better, including the type of equipment you have to watch it on.

Here's what I noticed on the broadcast yesterday, the stands looked a lot fuller when the Nitro Classes were running, not as much for Pro Stock and Bikes. Everyone takes their bathroom breaks, pit strolls and beer runs once the Nitro Cars finish their rounds.

If you've ever been to Fireturd raceway you'd understand..it's not the most spectator friendly track..plus the heat doesn't help..

Truer words were never spoken. Splintery plank bleachers baked in the sun, disgusting bathrooms, food that turns your stomach just walking by, terrible parking, two freeway exits and it still takes an hour to get in and an hour to get out. The place is a hole. I can't imagine how much fun it would be in 100+ heat.

Rich - the heat in the stands was brutal, even for Arizonans. There was a really good crowd for first round of pros Saturday, even a few deep on the fence. By the time Q4 started, probably half the crowd was gone.

While Friday was empty, on TV the crowds looked pretty strong for eliminations early on, and it seemed like the pits were full. I posted elsewhere that my dad was there Saturday, and he's been in Phoenix since '87, and he said it was brutal, just no fun being in the stands.
