Well it looks as if we are not going to dodge this one. I hope all others that are affected by this storm pull through OK.

I am off to finish boarding up.

This is going to be a bad one! I won't be boarding up or evacuating since I live so far inland, but luckily my company headed Mayor Bill White's request to keep traffic down for evacuees by closing offices.

I can only imagine what building codes must be anywhere near the Gulf! With all the Hurricanes that whole region has seen in the last 5-6 years it must be pretty tough.

I understand the why building codes are in place ... but it makes my job a nightmare. For hotels in Florida, we use 25 - 33% more wireless access points than anywhere else because of all of the concrete and rebar in the buildings. Really makes setting up wireless networks TOUGH!!!!

Some places in California are just as bad as they try to make the buildings Earthquake proof.

We just took a cruise on the golf cart down to the boat ramp we have in our neighborhood. It launches into Burnet Bay and we can already see the affects of Ike. The tide as already come up a couple of feet.

Tomorrow night we will have to put our game faces on. Wifey is going to her brothers in the morning and I am going to ride this one out with my 10 MM strapped on. ;)

Pam and I and my dad are going to ride it out here in ole Deer Park. Everyone else is gone but finally at 2 today my work had an elightenment and decided we might need the day off tomorrow. I have one of those bosses that thinks everyone's overreacting. Its a freaking hurricane! Hopefully all the Houston area maters are safe. If yall need anything, give me a call: 832-493-1075.

Ok Maters, here's the deal.

I have always been a techno-junky and for those that want to watch a hurricane live, I have 6 cameras around my house that you can view. I will try to keep them running as long as my ISP stays running and I can keep power supplied.

Here is what you need to do and I promise I am not trying to send out a virus.

Type in the address bar:

http://hearn.selfip.com:26540

Because of the first time to view, you will be asked to install a Active-X webviewer called ITWebstream.CAB Your web browser may ask for permission to do so. You will need to tell it is ok.

Once that is installed, a log in box will pop up. Make sure the PORT says 20408. The ID and password is maters in lowercase letters.

I promise not to moon anyone.

Wifey is going to her brothers and I will stay to hold down the fort.

You kids keep you heads down, spirits up, and Ammo Dry...

Praying for y'all, in my own way...

d'kid

Just great , an impressive storm . Nearly as large as the Gulf of Mexico.
The outer bands are still right offshore of Cuba , the Yucatan off the east coast of Florida and off Grand Isle La and the mouth of the Mississippi River.

It has Tropical storm winds out to 210 miles .
Last ones I remember this large were Allen and Gilbert.
I wish Ike would take a hike !
Here is a good link but the buoy's have been winking out like lights.

This storm is expected to gain more strength before landfall.
Folks once the action starts there's nothing you can do and if your roof goes!

Ooohhh! Now I know why they want to load me at 6:30 tomorrow morning instead of the original 11 AM in Coppell/a Dallas suburb! Lucky me, heading east/northeast back to Bristol through Memphis. Hope I can stay ahead of that one!

Your stuff always turns northeast and heads our way. If it's raining here on Thursday, we get races rained out on Saturday.

Watching on the news, looks like plenty of people AREN'T riding it out. Gettin the heck out of Dodge, they are.

Good luck everyone! I hope you guys stay safe and we will be talking when it is over.

The bad thing is, it seems so unpredictable. But aren't they all?

And d'kid Happy Birthday and I have plenty of dry ammo :) AND I aint afraid to YOOZ it

Good luck Glenn and keep your head down!! Been through a couple of Florida ones buttoning up my mom's house, and your second biggest worry is all the crap flying thru the air (Mom's mango tree was a good example!)

Seems like you have the first worry handled well!! (Bang!! :D)

I don't have a good feeling about this AT ALL! Call it women's intuition...or just a hunch. Or maybe it was being 35 miles from the coast during Alicia in '83 and how FREAKIN' scary that was!

I'm about 80 miles n/ne of Galveston and they are predicting we will still feel cat 2 wind speeds. I semi wish my neighborhood didn't have so many 40+ year old big trees! Thankfully, they predict quick movement once it hits land, so flooding might not be much of an issue for most of us. That storm surge is bothersome! I'm hoping it shifts just east...enough for SE Houston and the Bay to be spared. I have loved ones that are not listening to the mandatory evacuation in the League City area.

Montgomery County is under a 'shelter in place' warning, but I'm worried about so many of my fellow Splendorians and friends living in mobile homes with the predicted wind. :(

Be safe Glenn! You are going to be in hell!

Thanks Kelly. I have prepared the best I know how. But remember, just because you are inland you are not out of harms way. You be safe too!!

Well for those who elect to stay you are committed so the variables like flying pigs and steers going through picture windows is a possibility.
For those in the metropolitan area here is a link to check predicted winds and rain with a lot of local info.

You can Google Earth for elevations using your zip code.
Make your choice knowing that once the action starts your options disappear and hunkering down is it.
If I had the option [ work responsibilities ] I would be anywhere but Houston.
I just seen a possible 20 ft. storm tide for Galveston Bay predicted with 30 ft. waves on top of that for Galveston and the local emergency spokesman said to residents not protected by the sea wall, if you stay you will die.
Those are pretty stern words , lets hope no one stayed.

So much of our energy needs come from this area the effects will be long lasting and great on the whole country.
Twenty feet will cover so much of the electrical stuff it will take weeks for China to produce enough motors and pannels to get them going again.
