How NOT to act as a fan. (1 Viewer)

A couple of things I want to add to this.

I know the person apologized, but still I wonder if this guy would have the same outburst if it was some guy instead of a 5' 100lb female racer.

Some examples:

I never heard of a fan yelling at Brandon Bernstein for sending his car over the wall in a tire shaker.

I never heard of a fan yelling at Eric Medlen for doing things he should know not to do by now (G-ville '06 for example - continue to coast the car with a hurtin' motor with his foot on the pedal only to have it go "BOOM!").

I never heard of a fan yelling at Jason Line for going turtle in his very first round of competition.

As far as Mr. Smith, I have to agree with some people here, seems like he's only hating on teams with funding.

BTW I kid those 3 drivers I mentioned, just using them as an example.

An intersting dilema, indeed

We in America share the liberty of being able to say what we please, and that's our right. As crazy as it may sound, that fan been assured the right to say what he/she pleases to Hillary. No doubting that...

...however, HOW you say something makes all the difference. Athletes put themselves in the spot-light, knowing that people will criticize their work. If that concern wasn't there, many people wouldn't have "butterflies" before competition. Now, when physical danger is involved, that just creates more "butterfiles". Often times you want to do well not only to win, but to prove to others that you belong on the same field as your competitor.

I bet Hillary was grateful for that experience. The person who stated that showed Hillary that 1: they have no class whatsoever, and 2: Due to fact #1 she shouldn't worry at all about what was said because it means nothing to her in the grand scheme of things.

Hillary knows that some people in life are worth listening to, and others just aren't. It's nature's way of helping those with class avoid those without it.

Well then Sam, that would make you full of shit. I could think of many other reasons to put well funded teams on the proverbial golf tee and swing away....and this ain't one of them.

can i just get back to the original subject here for a minute and just reiterate this: what the hell gives any fan the right to mouth off to any driver in the pits, for any reason?

that's just a low life fan right there. we're lucky to be in the pits. we're lucky to get as close as we do. I think we fans ought to remember that.

Hey Bob,

Sorry for contributing to getting this thread off-track. And thanks for bringing it back on-track. You are right, just because a fan has a pit pass does not give them the RIGHT to mouth off to any driver or team they feel the need to. It is very low life and detrimental to the fan/professional interaction we enjoy as a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT. Drag racing can and might go the way of NASCAR or IRL or F1 and bar fans from any contact with the teams or pit access in the future, and this type of behavior would certainly lead to that happening sooner than later. The old "freedom of speech" and "my rights" type of attitude does not override the need for respect and integrity in communication between people. There is a lack of common sense and knowing what is appropriate and inappropiate in the world these days. But, as the cliche states, "you can't legislate stupidity".

And Bob, get back to WORK!!

Yep, there is a time and a place for everything....

It just goes to show that this "fan" wasn't really a fan. EVERYONE knows that there is 1 pit that you don't talk smack and that is the Kalitta pit. There are about 15 people over there (starting with Conrad himself) that will not hesitate to pop someone in the mouth if they they think they got it comin'! He is lucky he didn't get his ass whupped by Conrad, his son, a lanky Aussie, a gaggle of Oberhoffers and some cowboy hats.

As for Hillary, Bucky Austin and Jon O say she is the real deal, and that is good enough for me.

If I said something that is wrong then I'm sorry but I was just going by what some of the other people were saying.

Chris........The Kalitta camp has the most 'employed' people in the pit area but they are not known for being tough. The 'tough guys pit area' title goes to the J. Force camp. They are brawlers but would never brawl w/ a fan over a loose mouth...Kalitta and Scott are not tough bare knucklers.
Paul Smith is a tough s.o.b.
In the 80's and early 90's the Gwynn camp were always getting into whenever they ventured into the southern states. And Grubnic....he is far from a fighter...And the two guys who wear the Cowboy hats in the Kalitta camp....they are from the Vegas area and are not 'real' cowboys and even wear the tight pants.
You are judging a book by the cover.......

And for Hillary being the real deal..........she comes w/ cash in pocket and our history shows that he/she who has the gold makes friends and the rules.

Pay me $5000.00 a race to tune and spend $25,000 on a motor built by me and I will say your the real deal tooooooooo. Later....

Once again what the hell does that have to do with anything?
You must think Connie is the toughest person on the planet!
And to let you in on a little secret someone did mouth off to the Kalitta camp we are talking about him in this thread!
Most and I say most fans who have been fans for a while are more than aware of Connies temper, Scott is more layed back then his father also so don't include him in that list and Dave is an even easier going guy.
Who is to say that guy, the fan, wouldn't kick ass and take names?
We all agree the fan was being a dick so just let it go and get off this tough guy crap geez!

I'll tell you right now that that was not even close to the first time that someone in a nitro car stayed on the pedal too long...and it's not going to be the last either. Too many times the 'want to' just out weighs the 'should'. I'll bet big on one thing. Hillary learned something from that run and it'll be a cold day in hell before she does it again! Rookies learn lessons and that was a big one for her. She doesn't need me to defend her but from my perspective be she and that team had a great first season.

OMG!!! Is this thread lame or what? Enough please!!!

seriously she is right......has this thread seriously degenarated into who we would take if there was a pit area brawl....c'mon folks....disagreements are fine and welcome, but this has gotten a little out of hand

My post was a complete joke in response to the rest of the nonsense in the thread .... I am sorry it went over all of your heads. You all need to lighten up.

I don't think Conrad is the toughest man on the planet. I know Scott is not his father. I know you would be hard pressed to find a more laid back and likable guy than Grubnic. I have no idea if the Oberhoffers and Blacks want to fight anyone, let a lone some fan that was out of line. It is completely ASSININE to think that in the current media intensive climate, plus the very real possibility of getting sued, that anyone from any team would ever fight any fan, no matter how out of line the fan was. It is just easier to have security escort the man off the grounds rather than risk your entire reputation/operation. Sheesh you guys are easy ....

but chris you must also remember that in this day and age of NBA players going into the stands and fighting fans and fans throwing blunt objects such as cell phones and batteries onto the playing surface, you cannot overlook the possibility of something like that happening, so some jokes are taken serious even if they are the most non-reality based scenerios

Are we there yet??

:D
