But is Chevys presence because Chevy is involved, or because the Camaro body is supposedly the most aerodynamic? I’ve heard from several people that the Mustang body is just as aerodynamic if not better, but I’ve also been told there isn’t enough proof with those cars to justify a switch when the Camaro is more than proven. In a class that is as close as Pro Stock and Pro Mod, you don’t want to give yourself any disadvantage by running a body that’s less aerodynamic. And as far as the get a life comment, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you have always went to an ice cream shop and had several different flavors, then they start only having one flavor, you’re gonna get tired of that ice cream shop and the same flavor over and over. That’s Pro Stock in its current form.
I have wondered that myself. However I saw someone speculate that one team was Matt Hartford because he has become very good at tuning the existing setup with its terrible air distribution inside the manifold. They said 2 independant teams didnt want this,my guess is mcgaha and delco??
The rule was changed because the majority of the teams wanted it not because it will put more @$$'$ in the seats.Hood scoops are not going to get more people to like prostock. As long as it's still all Chevys, who cares?
NHRA has destroyed prostock.
Good question, although not limited to PS, or Drag Racing alone for that matter. How much longer will they even have this as a car class. With so many mfg going away from cars and replacing them with crossovers will the class move to escapes and blazers soon ?![]()

not sure where this evidence of prostock dying is coming from. The class is about as popular or unpopular as it was 25 years go. There's still enough competitors interested in racing, to fill 16 car fields, although i thought after the Cuadras quit, that would be a problem. it's a niche class within in a niche sport and the only alternative to racing in the nitro classes, where the cost is exponentially higher
The first sign? PS went down a path of dwindling car counts several years ago; it seems to me that it has rebounded and remains healthy. Let's face it, almost every category is expensive to run, so we might not see 8 or more cars or bikes being bumped out anymore.Just being able to "fill" a field is the first sign, used to be 8 cars would be bumped out.
None of them are Pro................
Some are stuck at the fact that there zero factory support and the lack of Mopar's and Ford's, so it must be dying. Just think if Toyota was allowed to run prostock with a factory team.not sure where this evidence of prostock dying is coming from. The class is about as popular or unpopular as it was 25 years go. Freeman getting into TF is all about expansion, not trying to move out of PS. If you've ever heard his interviews, he's great to listen to. I agree that it sucks not having more body styles and brands, I just don't think PS is dying at the moment.PS is down to one brand and two engine builders from probably around 15 of each. No new cars or manufacturers on the horizon, not really any new blood to speak of coming in. OK so a few new ones have but they all have the same last name, they also just write a check no new innovation
. So yes PS is dying the death of a thousand cuts. PS used to bump many cars a weekend now they barely have full fields. How long before the two guys get tired of beating their own and each other before they move on ?? How long before the small guys leasing from the big guys get tired of not being able to win?? Freeman is already going into TF pretty aggressively.
A big problem I see is other manufacturers not producing cars that are PS material, I hope GM and MOPAR bring back models that will fit the moldFreeman getting into TF is all about expansion, not trying to move out of PS.
