Kind of a weird deal and crappy for those trying to back up a record and the dial-in and throttle stop "Rod" classes who don't get to make a time trial at the new distance.
Ya know....I thought the same thing. THEN I went to see the Pro Mods run 1/8th mile at Houston Motorsports Park. It was AWESOME! I still don't know how those guys stopped their cars with such a short track and shutdown.
Anyway....that was Pro Mods but I have to stop and think that if I went to an NHRA event and they had to 'alter' it......I WOULDN'T LEAVE!
With the one lane race tracks that NHRA put out what is better? One lane at a 1/4 mile or two lanes at an 1/8. No one wanted to have to come back. It was the water not the prep.

Actually I personally believe IHRA preps their tracks better than NHRA. Sometimes too good. Our 3.10 @ 275 (1/8th mile) on Monday on a 110 degree track is a testament to that. The fact that it rained all day on Sunday caused yet another situation of a water logged track in the Great Lakes area. Got lemons, make lemonade.
NHRA postponed a race due to a bad track (Bristol), so did IHRA (Milan). The fields were set the, teams were there. Do you have any concept of how much it would cost EVERYONE to wait another day.
Wouldn't have done any good to wait until today, it started raining again last night and was still raining when I left the track this morning. Ironically, that area was bone dry before Saturday night's downpour, so dry that trucks going down the road were leaving roostertails of dust from the shoulders of the roads. They needed the rain, but could have waited just one more day.
Unlike Milan, TMP has no ditches to drain excess water away from the track. Even the ditches eventually fill up, as we found out at Las Vegas, but we didn't get a huge amount of water at Cayuga and trackside drainage probably would have prevented the weepers that did us in Monday.

MIke, while that's a decent number it's maybe a 4.55 which is common in TF. I will say that IHRA tracks get much better air then NHRA events! Not sure if that's geographics, time of year for those tracks or what.

Joe, I don't care if it was on the moon or 20,000 leagues under the sea...the point is...you still have to have a race track under you to hold such a run, to chalk it up as a "good air" run is just plain bullshit, come and taste the water before you make such a statement.
..and by the way, T.J. rolled in a little deep on that run, so it was more like a 3.07. Not bad for a bunch of part timers with 6 year old cyl heads, 10 year old clutches and no setback blower.
