Great fields for Indy...

I'll be rooting for my buddies Chuck and Stephen Comella. Chuck bought his '68 Hemi Dart new in '68 and has raced it ever since!

Thanks a bunch Mark. I see all 4 Rds are Fri. I thought they saved the finals for the next day in the past.? I wasn't planning on goin to the track on Fri. Hmmm may have to re-think plans, I love the Hemi Challenge.

Mike, the factory stock shootout cars compete in regular stock eliminator as well, (provided they qualified for the field). These are all just races within a race. The Hemi Challenge, the Factory Stock Showdown, the Traxxas Shootout, etc., are just races within the big race to which, the cars still compete in their regular eliminator (again, provided they qualify for their respective eliminator).

Paul, they've always ran all the rounds on Friday. The Hemi Challenge final is usually run after Pro Stock Bike and Car but before nitro, or after Funny Car but before Top Fuel. This is the reason I've never made it to any of the open houses at Force's shop or Schumacher's shop, on nitro alley. I know it would be really cool to see the insides of their amazing warehouses, but I just can't pull myself away from the track on Friday. Seeing 20+ Cudas and Darts battle it out is just too cool for me to miss.

I agree Frank. To me, watching the Mopar Hemi Challenge is kinda like watching Pro Stock in its infancy, circa 1970.

Indy always seems to draw the racers and the fans based on it's rich history of drag racing.

The N.H.R.A. would love to be able to duplicate this winning formula for all of their events.

Well you really can't Jim, just like the Indy 500 stands out from the rest of the Indy car races in the series.

i questioned the hemi challenge and SS elim. because of a similar question i had earlier this year regarding the similar situation with the factory stock shootout and their regular eliminator. in a thread on june 6, 2016 titled 'who's going to englishtown', i was asking how this all played out at the few national events that contest 'factory stock shootouts'......alan reinhart was kind enough to shed some light on the situation and this is how he replied.

update: 9/1/16: 8 car field set for factory stock shootout
none of the shootout drivers are listed on Q sheet for stock elim.

Though it seems to be on life support these days, my first trip to Indy in '96 had 56 cars entered in Pro Stock.

Yeah...when NHRA started mandating cars that ran within .15 hundreds of the Natl. record, or whatever it was...cut it WAYY down.

Actually 1 pulled from P/S and 1 pulled from P/M but it's back up to 31.

Kinda funny how people were complaining about "Big Chief" Just taking a valuable spot but the field isn't filled in P/M.
They still have til the end of the day West Coast time today to get their entry in.
