X2............I said that during the shootout......that race used to be packed also!!!
I was @ Talladega Super Speedway today for a swap meet and they had A LOT of the ends of the front straightaway grandstands covered with tarps that look like signs. It has been this way for a couple of years. All of motorsports is suffering from the economy but I think NASCAR had already started a downturn before the economy went south.
I went to Daytona in 2000 and 2001 for both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races and I had seats on the backstretch and we were packed in there for both races. The backstretch stands looked like they were closed today. I would be shocked if the place isn't close to a sellout tomorrow. However, the weather looks like it might be iffy, so that might hurt attendance.
Paul, Jim Vail told me his tickets for Both Bristol races for 3 seats are $200 cheaper than they were in '06!
Doesn't surprise me. Any decent ticket for a Sprint Cup race used to cost around $100. I bought tickets to the spring Texas race and I paid $50 a ticket. The economy has hit blue-collar workers the most and that is the demographic that fits the mold of the typical Nascar fan.

I was there too Paul, and was telling Joe the same thing earlier about the backstretch being packed. I sat back there in 2000 for the Busch race. I remember taking the tram back there, and the combo of a 24 hr ride from Boston to having a few beers pre race prompted me to stand up as the tram left and make an announcement for all on the tram to remember that we were parked in "Mickey Six." Everone laughed, so I guess I wasn't too obnoxious.

Yep, my 3 season tickets, both races for both the spring and summer/fall races are now $200 less. I can't remember if it happend over one or two years. For the past few years the prices have remained the same as long as I renew by a certian date. It used to be that the money was due by that date too. They now have payment plans and have the option to pay up to over 9 months with no interesty. They bill your CC each month.
Going to races now is much more affordable than what it was 5-10 yrs ago. Chicagoland used to make you buy a track pack for all the races at the track and they have now broke that up. When I used to go to Chicagoland I had to pay $250 for the package deal even though I only wanted to really go to the Sprint Cup race. Now you can go to the Chicagoland Sprint Cup race for $75. I am going out on the ledge and I am taking my entire family to the spring Texas race this year. I will probably only drop $450 for the race and that includes the tickets and spending the night at Marriott. That is real affordable in my book.
I was wasted at the 2000 Busch race, I was 21 and there with my sister (it was a Christmas present from my mom). My sister was driving me nuts. I remember the tram, but I am pretty sure I walked to the front stretch both days. I remember paying $75 to park for the 500 both years in a strip mall on the front stretch.

At LVMS there is a ticket package for $88 that gets you 1 ticket to both the NNS and Sprint Cup in March and the Trucks in September and parking is always free.
Ma, as long as NHRA keeps its Non-Profit designation, why should they? If they break even and Tom, Graham and Dallas Gardner still get paid why change?

My tickets to Bristol came down $20.00 last year for the three day package. Maybe that's because Bruton has an idea about trying to fannies in the seats.

I'm betting you will def see empty seats from no shows, but the track won't care, they already have the money. Unless the have changed the policies, as long as the race is run there are no refunds.
How many empty seats is the question though. My feeling is Daytona more then any other race on the tour, has a lot of people who are there for more then the race and may be spending a few more days in the area.

Vegas is the same ... I would guess 85% or more of the fans in the stands at the Sprint Cup race are out of towners. If they had to rely on locals to fill the stands, they would be in trouble!
Come to think of it ... it is the same for the NHRA races here, which is why there is always a huge disparity in attendance between the Spring and Fall races, most people would rather come to the fall race.

I would think that Daytona, more than any other NASCAR event, would have fans there early for the shootout, the twins and the GN races before the main event, rather than planning to stay past Monday morning.
At least I might have something more interesting than the judge shows and Springer to watch on TV today....rabbit ears TV sucks!
What if it went it got rained out until tuesday....Remember the Winternationals a Few Years Ago?
