That was a very sad weekend indeed. The same weekend Blaine Johnson also lost his life.
I'm sure his wife Jackie "Ma Trett" and his daughter Jina are reliving some fond memorys today.
He is sorley missed in the Top Fuel Motorcycle world and will always be remembered as a pioneer in the sport !
Ahhh the 96 Prostar race. I have some fantastic footage of that race. Elmer was on his game that weekend, and if that rain never came, well in my mind he would have ran a 5.
Quotes from Elmer after the 6.06
"In my mind I knew it had to work, I thought this thing was making a lot of steam, Everybody is entitled to get lucky if they work long enough"
"All we were doing was tuning. This motorcycle was too lean. It needed a lot more liquid (Nitro) in it, I kept putting more in it and it kept going faster and I couldn't catch up with it"
Happy Birthday Elmer Trett... You are still missed.
This was when I first came across the Trett name, I was 7 going on 8, this was the article that made me fall in love with Fuel Bikes and the great man....
