Anybody have an idea on who may be buying DSR? Supposedly more information to come this week.
Elite racing would be another possibility. I don’t see anybody else buying an entire operation unless it was another auto racing team jumping into NHRA. Did anybody win the mega millions last night?A wild guess that may connected another rumor, Red Bull.
lots of money in aerospace and defense machining. Race parts may become a sideline although my neighbor does Nascar stuff along with the aerospace. Nascar has more money thoughi think the expansion of DSR Performance is great. would love to see an article someday that outlines the diversity of their manufacturing.
Ted, that was the Wiebe vs Jeb Allen crash that year, right? I was there too!Don Schumacher has been around drag racing for decades. He's probably wanting to step back a bit. Who can blame him? DSR has set records that likely will never be broken. I don't blame him one bit.
If anybody has earned his retirement, it's Don Schumacher.
At this year's Phoenix race I was able to get him to autograph this picture I shot of him at Tulsa's National Challenge '72.
I'll be making a hickory frame for it from a 24" diameter tree I had taken down last year and cut into 8 ft long, 2" thick slabs.
Vaughn, the Allen/Wiebe crash happened at the ‘73 National Challenge. Here’s one of the pictures I managed to shoot during that crash.Ted, that was the Wiebe vs Jeb Allen crash that year, right? I was there too!
Ted and Vaughn I was there too in both 72 and 73. My first race ever in 72. I was in heaven. I remember standing at the finish line when Danny Ongais lit-up the Vels-Parnelli Jones FC. Was also at the finish line when Ronnie Sox red-lit, he came thru the lights with his head down. I had a bunch of pictures but they've disappeared over the years.Vaughn, the Allen/Wiebe crash happened at the ‘73 National Challenge. Here’s one of the pictures I managed to shoot during that crash.
Unfortunately, the years have not been kind to the Ektachrome slides.

What is interesting to me is all the smoke out of the cockpit. This was before side windows and you'd see this on a long burnout. I also remember one of Maz's cars at the Winternats. Went up in smoke & driver had to shut off cuz he couldn't see. Sironian???Tony, National Challenge '72 was my first national event. It seemed like every other fuel car grenaded their engine. But, Ongais' fire was scary.
I got this picture of the car. But, I don't remember if this was the run where things went really bad.
