What more does Densh have to do to get a Wally? This guy epitomizes the bucks down racers who does great things with very little.

I was out of my seat last night watching the final against Hight in anticipation of the "Teachers Pet" picking up it's first Wally.

Maybe in Brainerd... we can only hope.

Someone give this guy some money!

It's easy:

Get to the finish line before the other guy without redlighting and without being light on the scales.

Geez, I thought you'd been around drag racing before.

Happy Monday Y'all!

WOW... now that I have this information, there is no stopping him now!! :D :D

He seems to put down some good runs in the Final, but the other car always seems to go one better.

Maybe he wouldnt be as good if he had more money and parts.

He's got eight Wallys from what I recall. Got them all when he was with John Force. I wrote back when he joined John's team that "Give this guy some money and decent parts, and he's going to be dangerous." He didn't disappoint, including doubling up at the 2004 US Nationals, winning the Skoal Showdown, and winning in eliminations on Monday.

And I'll repeat myself. Give this man some money and decent parts to work with, and he can be VERY dangerous. I think it was Fast Jack who, in Seattle, said "This guys got the smallest budget out there, yet he keeps kicking our butts."

With all due respect Jimmy Prock was tuning the AAA car when Gary was driving it. Gary was "just a driver".

I like Gary, and I'm really happy to see him doing well. However, I do have a complaint about his comp plus article today:

Drag Racing Internet Magazine - Competition Plus.com - DENSHAM SPEAKS ON "HAVES AND HAVE NOTS"

Ok, first the independants gripped b/c of all the testing the big teams could do and how big of an advantage that was. Well now with the nitro situation the way it is and testing being put on halt, they are b*tching b/c the big teams are going to be able to stockpile some cash since they dont have to test. Are you freaking kidding me? Its a never ending piss and moan train. I swear.

Exactly my point, Paul. Think about it. If he had extra money for more parts, perhaps he could also get a tuning expert (Not that he isn't one already.) who'd help him with that aspect of team operations. That plus his driving skills = a tough driver to beat. Like Karl said, I have a hard time believing he just cooled his heels in the transport lounge between rounds. I don't think he's that type of "just a driver."

My $0.02:)

Justin you should share your thoughts with a Gary Densham, Jim Dunn or even a Tony Zizzo Sr. I hope you don't mind being told where to stuff your opinion.

You are right on the nose. Having spoken with Gary a few times recently I know he would have no problem saying that plus I think I can say that Gary is not a whiner by any stretch. He's the same guy in the pits as you've seen being interviewed at the top end on TV recently saying he's just glad to be out racing and if anyone thinks he's pissing and moaning -- I'd say he has some valid points -- based on what he's said in this one article is forming their opinion on very limited information which is not a strategy I'd recommend.

As for the question posed at the outset of this thread, I'm not sure what Gary has to do, but before the finals started yesterday I was saying to hubby that Gary needed to have a good reaction time, hook it up and hope Hight smoked the tires or dropped a cylinder or some other minor mishap that would slow him down just a little bit.

He's getting closer all the time. Semis in Seattle. Finals in Sonoma. He's going to get at least one Wally this season.

I'm not going suggest that Gary's a whiner, but is it Shoe's or Force's fault when a independent racer can't find sponsors? NHRA let the genie out of the bottle 10 years ago with multi-car teams, and unless Don or Connie just decides to sell out I doubt they're going anywhere.

Tony, I'm not saying I dont feel for them. I understand how expensive this stuff is. If everyone could afford it, then we'd all do it. But thats just not the case. Racing=Money. Always has, always will. And someone will always have more than you do. Which means someone will always be able to hire the right people, buy the right technology, the brand new state of the art equipment, test more, have extra parts that they dont have to run a conservative tuneup, etc.

All I'm saying is it seems it doesnt matter what the situation is, someone's complaining about something whether it be they get to test more, now they have more money b/c there testing less, etc. It just gets old after a while.

I love it when Densham/Wilk/Worsham/etc beat up on the multi-millionaires club cars...
For the amount of money the JFR/DSR teams have, 10-14 million combined, they look pathetic against the independents like Densham/Wilk..
