Reciprocal Friendships Between Users
As part of our new social networking system, users can now request that people on their buddy list confirm their friendship, after which time a person's list of confirmed friends will be viewable to other users.

It's different because you are not saying anything when adding a friend like you would in a PM. It is like myspace......Shannon even commented in the myspace thread in the lounge that we have the same thing going on here.
