Antron OK after round 1 accident

Another one bites the dust, oh well.

Sorry but i really find it hard when people always call recent NHRA crashes an accident and people perish as a result, then come on herre offering prayers etc. If I was responsable for the car that caused an crash I would be ****ting myself now. I have been to way too many funerals from my other disabled mates at School dying from terminal illnesses etc. The blunt truth is that too many people have been lost recently. We need a fundermental rethink on the design. Surely safety £££ are better than spending £££ on counciling and years of pain and regret?

Perhaps ban or putting much less % of nitro in the tank?

Covering up the rear wheels?

Yeah whats with the recorded earlier and skipping the live call of Antron's run.. just on to round 1 funny car... I suppose they are expecting to go live since the race is still being run, and after the finals the announcement will be made.

this is a terrible terrible accident. no one... not antron, NHRA, DSR, you or me... not one wants an event lik this to happen

i can attest as can randy... it takes an incredible effort to put one of these cars down the track. and much of that effort is simply to make sure we do it as safely as possible. i as a driver don't wanna get hurt. i don't want my equipment hurt, i don't want a competitor hurt and i don't want any fan or spectator hurt

these machines are inherently volatile and unfortunately today that was proven all too true

my heart goes out to the family and friends of the lady who lost her life. undoubtedly today will change their lives forever

my heart also goes out to antron... god help him deal with the guilt that will no doubt accompany him and the feelings he will have for being a unknowing role in this tragic series of events that ended in the loss of an innocent life. that is a burden that can be devastating and haunting... trust me i have been there

I agree 100% Sean and would like to make 2 other points.

- The waiver and back of ticket stub has NEVER failed in court for NHRA (ie proven NHRA was at fault or negligent). I will admit that there MAY have been cases settled out of court though.

- Rob McCabe your comment " Hope that makes you all happy because I started the BS... " is about the only post you made that is 1/2 correct - no it still doesnt make me happy.

not TO an axle. THROUGH an axle. Have you ever held a live axle in your hands from today's live axle rear ends?? Its a hollow tube. Splined at both ends with drive plates, splined in the center for the carrier. You dont tether to the axle, you tether to the other wheel. Now if you don't mind i got some rocket engines to modify. :D

My prayers to all of those involved with this tragic incident, especially those who were injured.

Rest assured NHRA and the teams will devote a concerted effort to prevent this from happening again for both driver and non-driver safety.

Arm chair rule making on here isn't going to accomplish much. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, just as you're entitled to be judged based on that opinion.

I'm not familiar enough with Indy car tethering systems to comment, but I do know a fuel car is a long way from an Indy car in terms of engineering and forces applied/exerted.

your'e right, Its simply not possible to improve safety by tethering wheels. Please don't let me interrupt you all from waving those giant foam hands,

Or collecting autographs and swag,

Or buying NHRA halter tops or hats,

Or having "mastermater meetings",

Don't risk having an original thought.

Go with the crowd,

Be Joe or Jane average,

Be a loyal "employee"

Don't take risks

In light of the spectator succumbing to her injuries, NHRA.com should have chosen different wording for the headline for their lead story of the event's postponement.
