Antron OK after round 1 accident

Yall need to lay off NHRA over this. Its called an accident people. They happen. Every person (driver, crew, owner, fan) that goes into a race track knows anything can happen.

No need in yall getting bent outta shape, especially when you dont even know what happened. As for the Safety Safari, there no 1 goal is the driver and the car safety. Like has already been stated, there's onsite medical personel for fans/stands.

At a dirt track race in the early/mid 80's my dad was hit in the head by a tire that came off a car during a crash. It hurt him pretty bad but he lived. He'll be the first to tell you its an accident and $Hit happens.

My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family and anyone else associated with this tragedy and the people there who witnessed it also. Just be positive that atleast Antron made it out ok bc that was a very nasty crash.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax. There was an unfortunate accident where people were hurt and one person lost their life. To blame the NHRA for this is ridiculous. Don't you think if the NHRA could have prevented this from happening they would have? Just like any accident, there will be lessons learned from this and it will make the sport safer. My thoughts are with those impacted by this event.

Unfortunately, many on here don't get that concept, Paul. Seems after every incident, whether it was this one, Darrell's, Scott's or whatever, it always comes back to NHRA's perceived malicious negligence. Gimmee a frickin' break............

Like you, Paul, my thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by this horrible accident and that's the only important thing that needs to be said this early in the game. It's unfortunate that positive change is many times preceded by a tragedy, but it's life. Once again, we'll be better for it in the end.

Take a look at the back of your ticket stub for an answer to that second one....

Horrible day at the drags folks.

Tim, thanks to our freedom of speech and freedom of the press, you can write just about anything you like on the back of the ticket. I know from my experience with a professional sports team, the chance of the ticket message being legally binding...less than zero

10-4 Timmah... from the looks of RR's photos, the car looked like it was mostly over the wall, 45 degrees of horizontal twist and Ant was on the return road...

God Speed to the Lady and Blessed Be to her Family and loved ones.

Horrible day at the drags folks.

I know on tickets that I kept for IRL etc it said that I assume all responsibility or something to that effect. Don't have any of my NHRA tiks aound right now.

Condolences to the family of the deceased.

"that lady who got struck could be anybody and a freak accident like this could happen at ANY Time...."

Freak accident being the operative term, here.

That being said, prayers to the family of the spectator. AND to Antron Brown...

Audiocast is back up ... Funny Cars are running now ... Bob Frey said a spectator was injured and taken to the hospital and that was all the information he had.

Here are some other accounts from others of what seems to be a tragic incident that may have occured today February 21, 2010 at the NHRA Full Throttle Event located in Chandler, Arizona. My heart felt condolences, thoughts and prayers to all those that could be effected by these unfortunate series of events, some additional accounts shared by others can be found at the web link provided below:

This won't be a popular comment, but its time to put full track length, 30' high, arched catch fences up.

Unfortunately, this also means NHRA drag racing will be on the "mainstream" sports report at 11. Not what the sport needs right now.:(

I agree. After any accident of any kind, things are always looked at to see what if anything can be done to help such a thing from happening again.
We all know the risk, I was sitting feet away from Shrapnel from Wiess car at Indy a few years ago. I still go. No you don't expect this to happen as a fan and of course its tragic but lets find out what happen and then calmly fix it.

i understand where you are coming from but will this put the drivers of the cars in a bad decision say they get up into the fence? Its a catch 22.

I agree something needs to be done but, I would be afraid that catch fences wouldn't be strong engough to hold something with the mass and speed of a rear tire. They have more mass and spin at much higher rpms than nascar or irl tires. Also, if they could build one that was strong enough to hold it in, I would be afraid it would turn the tire into a 300 mph pinball and that would increase the chances of driver injuries..

Fences? What is this Nascrap? Why don't we close down the grandstands and the pits and we can all watch this safely from our homes?

I've read a few of the mindless NHRA bashing posts and it sure is amazing how many experts and mind readers there are on public message boards.

People get killed in 747's. People get killed in traffic accidents. People get killed jogging, in classrooms and cruise ships. California wants to spend a couple billion $$ to build a 200 mile per hour bullet train from Los Angeles to San Francisco. One little pebble on the track or some idiot with a crow bar and that thing will take a couple of miles to stop. All this to say, it happens.

But to say that NHRA couldn't give a crap is crap. Every year we have new safety rules that costs us racers thousands of dollars.

The valve covers on a TF car cost $5,000 because they have to be made to keep spark plugs, head studs and pushrods from shooting into the grandstands. Blower restrainst, bellhousing and bellhousing mounting systems have been beefed up to keep clutch parts out of the stands. NHRA mandated billit engine blocks to minimize the chances of parts flying out of them. Ballistic kevlar blankets cover the superchargers, crankshaft and bottom end. Funny car body have hood burst panels on them to minimize the chances of losing the body in an engine explosion. After the wheel episode of Dixon, NHRA immediately rewrote the spec's on wheels and required new SFI certification.

We kaboomed an engine second round at the Winternationals at Pomona and it blew a hole through the pan, kevlar bucket and belly pan allowing parts to exit my car. As soon as we got back to the pits NHRA tech was all over the car inspecting our stuff and the SFI dates to make sure we were using the safety products we passed tech with.

You bashers need to move on to something harmless like reality TV or video games. Life is fragile.

Our prayers are with the individual who was struck and her family as well as those effected by the unfortunate ACCIDENT.
