Wow, I know the money is really there, but this still seems like a pretty risky thing for AJ to do.

Anytime somebody (the sheik) is doing something more for the f*** of it than for any realistic long term financial gain you run a big risk that they might get tired of it or pissed off at somebody (like the NHRA) and decide to take their ball and go home.

I'm sure AJ's got some heavy weight attorneys to try to lock the deal down, but even so going after unpaid funds from someone in a foreign country is no easy task, even if the contracts are rock solid. I guess requiring full pre-payment for each season (if not the entire deal) is one way to go if he can pull that off.

But I hope he puts Toliver in the FC seat, I've always been impressed with guys like him that can find ways to win races on a shoe string.

Everyone keeps talking about who the Flopper pilot is going to be but I still wanna see Kalivoda in the Digger... I'm biased. I like either Burkhart or Skuza for the Flopper seat - though I wouldn't mind seein' Hollywood back out there!

Regardless, good luck to AJ - I wish him nothing but good fortune and success in his new endeavor.

Wes is correct. They have some really nice drag strips over there. They hire in a bunch of Euro cars every year and put on a great show. One of my buddies set his Pro Stock up for ride a-longs and gave about six guys 3/4 pulls. Pat Musi spent some time over there and somebody owns his 69 Camaro.

The folks over there are really decent. Let's not have a few turds define the whole region.

I've been to the track a couple times in Bahrain, not for a drag race but for a round of our (Australia's) own V8 Supercars and the facility there for the drag racing is absolutely first class.

Qatar is nearby and sounds just as good too, they run a round of the MotoGP series there.

Two years ago, a week prior to us visiting the Euro Top Fuel Series ran and the drag strip side of the venue was packed solid. The drag racing scene is pretty big.

Couple of pictures of us racing around the road circuit portion at Bahrain last year, the eight/nine story building a Sheik's private hospitality suite at the end of the main straight. The drag strip runs parallel the main straight of the circuit, but is separate.

Good luck to all involved with the new venture, it sounds exciting.

I wouldnt wory too much about AJ if the deal fell thru. Guys dont get to where he is without being plenty savy, besides if it fell thru next week I doubt he would be in the unemployment line for long.

Google Earth these coordinates:

25 degrees, 11'06.66" North by 51 degrees 29'11.79" East

Should take you to the Skeik's new track in Qatar.

This is the ninth purpose-built drag racing faility I have found in the UAE countries. Each facility rivals any SMI track here in the States. They love drag racing over there.

I tried cutting and pasting the coordinates into Google Earth. It didn't work. Being computer challenged can be a pain some days. Can someone please tell me how to enter these numbers into Google Earth so that it works? Call me curious.

I really hope this deal works out well for AJ, I've always liked him. It has a lot of promise, not to mention the potential job opportunities for a bunch of folks. It takes a lot of people to field two fuel cars. I'm willing to sit back and watch it unfold. Not much time before the Winternationals, things should start happening quickly. My vote is for Skooza.

If you ever visit some of the message boards for Bahrain and Qatar, you'd be hard pressed not to mistake them for a bunch of gear head Americans. The people are very friendly and they definitely like their speed.

do you have any links to those message boards? i would love to chat with some of those gear heads.

Vince, copy and paste this exactly as I have it spaces and everything:

25 10 32.41N 51 28 40.99E

That should put right at the center of your view.

That's exactly what I was thinking!
Someone would lap him up in a instant. Alan is in the driver seat as far as his career is concerned don't think otherwise.

Wow..that's a shockerooooo!
I'd like to see some new fresh face's in the mix to drive though....
Nothing personal.....just think it about time to get some interesting new people thrown into the mix while the window is open with a new team.

Whatever happens.......Change is Good.

I agree 100%.... a fresh face would be good!!!

like this one....and a "Seasoned Vet" to learn from....
