Aren't you the guy who was giving up drag racing ALL together when they went to 1000 ft.
...Just wondering!:)
Kevin Dreher..... I have been behind the decision of NHRA to go to 1000 ft. from the begining. You have never seen a post from me stating oitherwise. aren't you the guy that is allways posting things about people that are not true?
Glenn, I own a ford truck.

I did not post my original message to start a debate on here about american and foreign trade relations, I only stated my own personal feelings on that subject and there is nothing that can be said that will change my opinion. Just another chapter in the "Selling of America" book.
I hope everyone has a great labor day weekend.:)

Wow..that's a shockerooooo!
I'd like to see some new fresh face's in the mix to drive though....
Nothing personal.....just think it about time to get some interesting new people thrown into the mix while the window is open with a new team.

Whatever happens.......Change is Good.

Alan Johnson is a genius ... but the $11 Meelyun Dollar deal posted in the "rumor section" on this site seems out of line. That would make Alan Johnson the highest paid crew chief IN THE WORLD. More than any Indycar/NASCAR/F1 crew chief ... seems improbable.

Don't get me wrong ... I am NOT saying he isn't worth it ... I am just saying it is unlikely he is getting it for a "fringe" motorsport like NHRA Drag Racing ....

In the world of sports 11 large is not a mind blowing figure.

this is awesome news........i hope it's all true.
get these guys from the middle east hooked on speed and
the 'nitro shortages' will be a thing of the past.;)

everyone always bi*ches about how our little niche' sport
can't attract the big bucks.......well this looks like the perfect opportunity
to roll out the red carpet and welcome some speed hungry
individuals from way across the pond.

Not only that 11 million is pocket change to those shieks. They can spend money like that all day long.

If its 11 mil for AJ to field a team instead of 11 mil for AJ's salary, it doesn't seem like an exorbitant amout of money does it?

1 TF car
1 FC
2 Car haulers
1 Tech trailer
Hospitality trailer
crew salaries
food
lodging
fuel
etc
etc

Charles,

You make a good point. But lets do some basic math. Two cars with let's say a 2-3million budget for each, so that's 4-6 million, that's close or over half of the 11mill gone... The rest might be what he pockets?

AJ has stated if the right offer ever came up to field his own team again he would. So I guess if he's getting a team, as well as say a six figure deal, it would be pretty ideal for him.

Wish the time of day would fast forward a little so we would have an official statement.

Regards,

Michael

thats if you have everything in place Mike.....to start a two car team from scratch....i'd say budget $5 million a piece at least!

AJ has his own equipment already. Some stuff will have to be updated I am sure but $5.5M per team is a pretty stout budget even if you are starting from scratch. $11M is basically enough to run 2 2-car teams and make a pretty good run at a couple of championships. TF and FC better watch out next year, AJ has little left to prove, but he sure can blaze a new record trail that may never be matched.

Chances are pretty good this will put 2 more cars out there and employ 2 more drivers. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Can't wait for the official announcement, you never know until the people involved actually confirm the story, no matter how many good sources are reporting it.

but when you make a lot of parts yourself your budget comes down quite a bit too.

AJ builds those parts and sells them through his business, Alan Johnson Performance Engineering. I'm sure that his team will purchase the parts from the business. I'd be surprised if he just built his own parts for the team and didn't have to pay AJPE for them.

So let's say these guys would get all the nitro the sport needs and drive the price down for everyone... They are not "official" fuel suppliers, so no one would be allowed use it, and they would be fined if they brought any to a NHRA national event.

Jay

maybe they'll just buy VP. ;)

If you ever visit some of the message boards for Bahrain and Qatar, you'd be hard pressed not to mistake them for a bunch of gear head Americans. The people are very friendly and they definitely like their speed.
