Had just sat down to dinner, heard a rumble, the doors on the kitchen cabinets started rattling, the North wall boomed, then a bump, then a rolling motion.

Yep, that's what I did after my kids weren't little any more. They aren't THAT big of a deal once you're used to them and no damage happens.
They are a little freaky if they jerk you in the middle of the night but Moving? Not because of the earth movement. Now other reasons, probably so. LOL!!!

LOL yeah that sounds about right for something that small. It's not really worth getting excited about a quake until they get in the high 5s or low 6s.
When I first moved to NC there was a quake not far from Greensboro. It was all over the news that day, all the news stations sent reporters to check out the damage. Turns out it was like a 3.5 or something like that. How do you even feel something that small?? That's lower than standing at the starting line during TF!
Living in California certainly has a way of numbing you to the effects of an earthquake.
My brother has lived in L.A. for most of the last 40 years! The Northridge Quake knocked him out of Bed, right then he knew it was Brutal! I was at the '94 Winter's and I ventured up to Santa Clarita where he lived and couldn't believe my eyes! Every wall down, Tar fill in all of the Street cracks, they all looked like Spiderwebs! The erie feeling of driving under that collapsed Freeway overpass on the I-5, glad I don't live through all of that!
Wait a minute. remember guring a chat session last summer you were on pins and needles because of an imminent tornado and at one point you had to pick up and leave because you heard the sirens. If that isn't a sign telling you to move, I don't know what is.
