One of the winning drivers lost to the other, and one of the losing drivers beat the other.

Yes Bob to the naked eye you are correct, to be sure. But in the bracket they both win, and they both lose. The uniqueness of the rules is that Win means you advance, a loss means you do not. Being the 2nd to the line under these rules would be meaningless. It's a win.

I was just stating how I think the NHRA could interpret the W/L this weekend. It makes no difference to me.

Only that blue and yellow and DODGE are in Victory Lane! :D

So some of you guys are saying that you don't want to spend all day at the drags? I find there is nothing better then arriving early in the morning and leaving once everyone has gone. You guys even have the luxury of shade and fancy grand stand. They should have drag racing all day every day all night even. Though I still stand by my reasoning that drag racing should not change to make people watch it people should watch it for what it is.

^^^I agree, nuthin like being at the drag strip all day

Re: 4 wide nationals thread QUESTION

Did they use the sportsman cars to break-in all four lanes?

I know they're not running 4 side-by-side but, wonder if they are staggering the lanes - running the show faster or ??

Forget Kleenex this place needs Tampax as a sponsor (no offense to the ladies of the board since none of them are actually whining). Sheesh what a bunch of Nancys. I bet you guys would have bashed Big for **gasp** moving the engine BEHIND the driver! That's blaspheme!

So day 1 is in the books -

1. The media here in Charlotte has been all over this on every channel basically all week. Not a bad deal in the biggest Nascar market in the country.
2. In TF and FC we got to see side by side by side by side several times with all 4 lanes holding their own.
3. Everyone I have talked to said is was a blast. I wasn't there last night but I was there for the exhibition and I'd concur. 4-wide nitro is amazing and I can't wait to see it again.

I could be wrong, but in all the pictures I saw from last night, the stands looked rather empty. Can anyone who was there last night confirm this?

This pictures confirms it.

I've never been to an event on a friday night and the stands were this empty. Just seems like the stands should be packed.

You have to remember it was raining and I am sure a lot of people took off when there was a delay. Also, you need to look at the main grandstand before making any assessments.

I haven't seen video of the track except the clips on NHRA and was wondering how all four cars get off the track. Do two go left and two go right?

No Brent...
I wish it would have happened sooner, I won't have lost one of HEROS in September of '69... some things do weigh on a person their entire life, and effect the way they look at an entire organization.

d'kid

You're looking at that all wrong though. Already, half of the cars advance to the next round with a slower time than someone that just won in the pair before them. They still get to advance and get round points. It's still 2 pair of cars out there, only now the 2 fastest will advance.

Here is an example of the one thing that does change though. Tim Wilkerson lost in the first round of Phoenix with a 4.11 to Hight's 4.08. That 4.11 was fast enough to win just about any other matchup in the first round. With that said, the faster cars should advance.

!

now there's a man who pays attention....:-)

Pit side (John Force Grandstand) was crowded Friday. The other side, which is what the picture shows, was pretty empty. Today the pits were more crowded than I have ever seen them at any race including Indy. John Force Grandstand was packed. The other side was maybe half full.

I dont see the fair comparison. I mean anytime you get a change like this some will hate it some will love it. I wasn't around back then but sure I would imagine some would of hated it yeah but look at how quickly everyone changed over to rear engine the concept is just as old as drag racing is so is four wide for that matter. People probably hated going from flag start to christmas tree but I would imagine the christmas was done to give everybody a fair even start at the starting line so nobody could jump the start or whatever make it a fair race. But I would imagine those things were done for safety and performance and keep things fair.

I think the reason people don't like the 4-wide deal the way it is being done only with the pro classes is there is no reason for it it is a spectacle something done just to impress just for the amazement of having 4 8000 horsepower cars run at once. Its being done because it has WOW factor and no other real reason. Some will say sure but so is the burnout but the burnout not only does it have a function but its a way to put showmanship into the racing. Do I like 4 wide no I don't. But my oppinion doesnt really matter.

It all comes back to the question of is drag racing racing or entertainment. To some its racing to others it is entertainment.

Didn't like 4 wide years ago in person, didn't like it last year and it stinks on TV this year. It's just a stunt and doesn't lend itself to the spectator or the viewer in my opinion.

The only positive I can see it it should stop anyone from taking a dive. We can only hope its a passing fad and will fade from sight.

I enjoyed the TV coverage. Bruton Smith said 4 wide was coming to LV. When it happens I will be there.

Looks like this is going to be an interesting year for NHRA drag racing, I honestly feel its going to really cause a rift between those who like it and those who wont. Will be interesting to see where the sport ends up in years to come. Too early to tell if it will be for good or for worse.

I loved the coverage today! I am a fan of trying new stuff to see what kind of show it puts on and after watching it tonight I give it two thumbs up.

There it is in plain english you just said "to see what kind of SHOW it puts on" I think it is that racing versus entertainment debate that is going to cause what ever rift may come out of this.
