I meet Ernie Harwell, hall of fame announcer for the detroit tigers. he was callinga charity siftball game I was playing in. I was amazed at how kind he was. He made sure he knew how to pronounce peoples name and of course having a difficult one we talked for a few. I almost got to hear him make his famous long gone home run call. I hit the top of the fence at the college field we were playing at. Bummer not to get to hear him call that, but having him announce my name ws awesome.

Rick Mahorn, nba player While he was on the Pistons. The pistons were putting on a clinic for special olympic athletes before a game and although he wasn't part of the clinic he did want to check it out so out he walks and happens to stand next to me. I look over...then up as he's a foot taller
we chatted for a few as he asked questions about the program and such, then he headed back to the lockerroom

Meet Chris burke, corky from life goes on, most know him as a Downs syndrome actor

As a little kid I got to slap 5 with Bo Duke. yeah I know he had another name but as a 9 yr old he was Bo :)

My father used to work for Loretta Lynn...so I have met quite a few of the Nashville country music folks...my favorites besides Loretta herslef are Aaron Tippin and Hank Williams Jr. If I have time I will look for some of the photos to post.

I lived in Taos, NM for over 10 years and Las Vegas, NV for about three. In Taos, among the several people I met was Lynn Anderson. She owned horses and one day decided that her horse blankets were looking a little worn and a couple needed replaced. A phone call or two later her horses were set up for a photo shoot, for new blankets. One of my most embarrassing moments around horses happened a few weeks later. I have groomed and clipped horses since I was 12. One morning while grooming one of her horses to go to a trainer in Texas I was asked to trim the long hair on her face to make her jaw line look better. Everything was looking good and when I was almost done, the darling girl nodded her head a bit hard and I got a gouge of hair that was impossible to blend. Ms. Anderson was very gracious about it, but after that, her horse looked like an amateur had been at her with scissors.

Jay Leno at the Bob's Bigboy in Burbank in '06? Robbie Knievil at the NHRA race in Vegass! Richard Dreyfus at the US Natl's in '98? Musician Sting at a local Concert when I shot a Meet and greet.

Val Kilmer at a Blackcrows concert here, what a DICK! Actor Joe Don Baker at our Local Comedy club. Akeem Olazuwon (sp?) and Ralph Sampson back when the NCAA Final 4 was here in Abq. in '83!

I would NEVER guessed Joe Walsh as a ham operator.

He is very active in the hobby, particularly in collecting old AM gear.

I also know though Ham radio and my business Bob Heil. Most people have heard his work but most with the probable exception of Suzies husband would not know his name. Bob invented the first modular mixing console (the Mavis), his custom quadraphonic mixer (for the Who's Quadraphenia tour) and the very first Heil Talk Box (remember Peter Frampton?). These items were/are on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Bob worked/toured with greats like the Grateful Dead, the Who, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck etc.

I also used to have breakfast several times a week at the same restaurant as Boyd Coddington and his wife. Very nice guy and seemed quite a bit different than the TV persona.

I first met the group Phish at my Mom's house many years back when they stayed there for a weekend. Their manager grew up across the street and he and my brother were good friends.

I've met Martin Thomas.
What do I win? :D

Out of all the people I have met through out my life, the person I am the most thankful to have met came from the racing world, his Name was Eric Medlin.

Happy New Year

Dan

Akeem Olazuwon (sp?)

Since you asked, it's Hakeem Olajuwon. Sorry, I'm a journalist, I can't help it sometimes, especially since you weren't sure. :)

OK. I won't remember them all but being a sports writer since high school and having grown up in the burbs where many of the Seattle pro athletes lived I have met a fair number of sports stars. Also, having been a journalist for a good decade, I've also met a fair number of celebrities that way, too. I do not have photos to prove most of them ... just a couple since that's generally frowned upon in journalism.

I've met Detlef Shrempf, George Karl, Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton, Steve Largent, Alex Rodriguez, Randy Johnson, Lou Piniella, Lorenzo Romar, Andre Agassi, Bryce Fisher, Ernie Conwell, David Riske, Tim Lincecum, Roy (as in Siegfried and Roy at a Police K-9 competition in Vegas, believe it or not), Wayne Newton at a fundraiser in Vegas, Art Alexakis, Lewis Black, Jon Bowman, Alton Brown (I have a crappy cam phone pic of him with my hubby) and Tony Stewart (it was for work, not at the track, so sorry had to break the no-racing people rule :p ).

That's all I can think of right now.

Well, way back in the 70s, on my first trip to Las Vegas, I walked in a rest room at Caesar's Palace and was using the facility and none other than Howard Cosell walked up to use the urinal next to me--I said hi--and he said how are ya...my brief shining moment of fame...sad, ain't it?

That reminds me of a couple days I spent with Rupert Murdoch (Fox). He invited me down to Sydney to advise and evaluate his exec. team and we spent two days in meetings. I had lots of one-on-one time with his folks, especially his son Lauchlin, but never got a chance to talk to Rupert alone.

Then one night at dinner I went to the bathroom, and Rupert trots up to the urinal next to me and starts up a deep conversation, what did I honestly think about one of his senior execs, should he fire him, etc. He just started in, just like we were in his office -- like there was nothing weird about it. We ended spending 10 minutes in that bathroom chatting away. A few weeks later I read in the paper that he'd fired the guy...

Tim Lincecum!!! Cool I am a huge fan of his......

only famous person I've met/knew isn't that famous yet.... but most likely will be this time next year.

I went to High School with USC LB/College Football defensive player of the year Rey Maualuga who is expected to be drafted in the top 10 in April's draft.

and I am a "Autograph hound" so I have had brief encounters with quite a few sports players.....

How could I forget "Turn over the turnover" Murdock? Rex and I agreed that if we ever do that again, we'll be wearing trenchcoats, hats, and dark sunglasses while exchanging passwords known only to us. :D

I did screw up your last name, though. I have you in my cell phone as Dave Murdock. :D
