Your opinion on Harley-Davidson/PSM situation

Don't know if it's evil but, I ain't buyin'

Given the presumed demographic of NHRA fans, I expect you're missing a sizeable percentage by running your poll there exclusively.

PS: I like seeing more rather than fewer brands going head-to-head in PSB. It sure took a while for the cubic inch advantage to catch-up (and I don't know if the average competitor can get those motors) but ther's no way the competition is apples-to-apples.

My opinion is that Facebook is evil.

I don't think Harley Davidson should be blamed in this matter, I believe the blame should be directed at NHRA for allowing Harley to make a farce out of the class this year.

What's funny is while the NHRA sold their soul on this deal to the highest bidder I guess at least they decided to only do it for one year as so far it appears that next year the rules will be more fair.

The problem is that even if you are a "woman of the night" only for a little while, people will always regard you that way.

The biggest problem with different combos, is that when you have someone just dominate, how do you distinguish between hard work and an unfair advantage? There's not enough of them to determine that. Another example would be, if one guy went out and starting reeling off 5.0s in an A/FD, but the other 40 or whatever weren't close, well he found something, so he shouldn't be penalized. I'm not sure how you fix this class. Maybe next year's rules? I don't know...

Until they make this engine combo available to everyone that wants it, Vance Hines will own it. This combo has so much power left in it, no matter how much weight they add to it they won't slow it down. I use to like watching this class but the dominance by one team has ruined it.

Very well put Jessie. I feel the same as you.

a class with little interest now has no interest.
now at least a year will be spent trying to get back to 'little interest'.
there's at least two years completely wasted with obvious sponsor
withdrawal from the class......all for what? must be a big check if it's larger
than what has been lost and are still losing.
not exactly sales 101.

The problem, as stated by many others, is that no other racers besides V&H have access to HD equipment, so it's impossible to distinguish between hard work and an unfair advantage in this case. It's one thing if Matt Smith chooses to run a Suzuki rather than HD; but, it's a whole other issue if he doesn't have that choice at all. If you want to distinguish between hard work and unfair advantage, then you need to compare apples to apples.

This is another anology.
Say you were racing a flathead and someone shows up with a Duntov OHV setup and cleans up, you want to buy one but you cannot and they are still the only ones allowed to run it.

Pretty much sums up my opinion of the current situation, next year should be different.

I understand that Facebook makes things like polls and comment sections really an easy, turnkey deal but there are millions who don't do Facebook in any way.

If I wanted to be snarky, I'd say the last time I was asked to commit a "like" to something was that cute little girl in the fifth grade. Which was about the same time that everyone counted their valentines to see who had the most "friends".

But I don't and I won't. ;)

The Harley has an areo package that looks like about a 9 inch pie plate on top of the handle bars--Very areodynamic-NOT. All of the other brands have very slick fairings, covering the sides of the engine and plenty of room for the driver to hide. The Buell's get low ET almost every week in qualifying-What? I don't remember all the whing when Angelle, Antron and Jonhson were winning all the time. I am not even a PSM fan, but I like innovation. Thanks-Bob

Once again another person who obviously doesn't follow the controversy closely. The problem is Vance and Hines have an exclusive deal with H-D and are the only team allowed to run a power plant NOBODY else can even buy. The other teams you mentioned didn't enjoy the same type of exclusivity. No other team is allowed to run the V-twin, dual overhead cam, 4-valve per cylinder engine combination. You mention the Harley aero package, which is really nothing compared to the others. You are correct on this one point. However it isn't the Buells getting the number one qualifying spots, it's the Harleys; in spite of an aerodynamic disadvantage. What does that tell you?

Keep in mind that it is NOT a Harley-Davidson engine. It bears no resemblance to any engine produced by H-D except that it is a V-twin. When George came out with the S&S engine, NHRA made him produce enough engines so that anyone who wanted one could purchase it. Same with the Suziki engines. No one can purchase the H-D engine from V&H or from H-D for any amount of money.

BTW - I have been attending NHRA events for almost 50 years and riding Harleys for over 40 years, and I hate to see this happening. In my opinion, it is a travesty, and has made PSM and NHRA a joke.

Not to hijack the thread, but my question is Buell is no longer manufactured.Viper is getting in? Did I hear that Viper wants to use the Buell motor and not the Ilmor that is sold with their production bike?
