You'll have to look at the entries for the Winternationals and the California Nationals (can't think of what the Sears Pont race is called now) to compare. There just not that many west coast TF teams out here anymore.

just a quick count of TF and FC using brainerd, typically thought of as smaller race; DRC's data going back to 1998.
from 1998 to 2019 there was only ONE field of 15. the 2008 TF field.
for 22 years starting in 1998, 21 years had full fields.
2 years had 20 and 21 FC's (2001 and 2003)
2 years had 20 and 21 TF's (2011 and 2012)
2020 was not contested
2021 thru 2025 will reflect 18 cars short.
1 car short in 21 years
18 cars short in 5 years

One full time single car team that I spoke to said average cost for a weekend counting everything was north of $150K.
That's diesel fuel, race fuel, tires, parts cycle life, hotels, crew travel, salaries, etc. etc.

WOW! Alan, I had no idea that much money was being spent by a full-time single car team for one weekend. I'm sure it would be much less for a part-time single car team that might have a couple volunteer crew members. They'd still be paying a hefty amount due to the cost of nitro, parts, diesel fuel for a transporter, tires, hotels and food, etc. Even a guaranteed $5-10K wouldn't make a dent in the cost for a low-budget team. I can see why Terry Haddock has mostly disappeared or has hired out his seat to a paying driver.

Sorry but hard to get excited about a potential third car that makes one qualifying attempt and then a quick first round exit. I want to see a team whose desire is to improve and get better like the funny car guys who are showing up in IHRA.

joe, i agree, but also noticed the majority of TF and FC only took the first Q attempt, then came back to race the following day.
it's nice for the racing budget, but not so nice for a fan who bought a ticket to see nitro on Q day. at least they run the fuel altered class.

Do you remember who didn't run 2nd session? I was there and didn't notice a lot less cars making runs. I watch tonite and see. But some budgets might only take 1 hit. Looking forward to 2026 location announcement. Planning on going to at least 4.

I do know Creasy, Bode, Smith, McNeal and Jackson didn’t run Q2. I think the 7 others did. In TF, there was only one pair first round as Plourd, Callaway and obviously Foley were no shows. I don’t believe that Plourd has yet to obtain his license so he wouldn’t be allowed to run side by side yet. Not positive but I believe that is the reason for his no show.
